PS3 L.A. Noire puzzles out exclusive content

Rockstar confirms Sony edition of detective drama will feature bonus Consul's Car Traffic Case over Xbox 360 game.

by

L.A. Noire is poised for a May 17 release, and Rockstar has already laid out ways in which gamers can gain different content by preordering at certain retailers. Now, gamers will have an option to further customize the content they receive, depending on whether they pick up the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version of the game.

As first indicated by L.A. Noire's PS3 box art posted to retailer sites such as GameStop, the Sony edition of the game will include "exclusive content." Rockstar subsequently confirmed this information in a post to its official website, saying, "Look for more details on that coming soon."

Guess: The Consul's Car Traffic Case ends in a car bombing.

And while the publisher was itself cagey as to what those details would entail, it appears as if the first indication of what PS3 gamers can expect comes by way of an advertisement on TV-streaming service Hulu. According to the ad, the PS3 edition will include the Consul's Car Traffic Case. Additional details on this bonus mission were not revealed.

L.A. Noire is in development at Australian studio Team Bondi and follows Detective Phelps as he becomes entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1940's Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an "open-ended challenge."

to all those crying about ps3 exclusive content...360 people should be happy that they at least get to play this game..as it was originally planned to be a ps3 exclusive game.

I think exclusive contents should be made illegal. 1st GTA IV, then Fallout 3, now L.A. Noire. Same thing for the pre-orders. We all pay the same amount of money, we should get the same products. These strategies for selling few more copies in a console or another are just slimy.

@Ex-DarkBlade - Doesnt really have anyting to do with porting. Its whether or not the engine can handle the different platforms. Rockstar's engine looks really good on both, others may struggle a little bit. You should read the post that Sony released expalining why they make it hard to code / port onto their console. They like exclusive titles etc. Pretty interesting read, but not sure I think it was the right thing to do.

@Ex-DarkBlade yeah, I'm sorry for being rude. You should check out Portal 2 if you haven't already. It's a very worthy successor to the original.

@Ex-DarkBlade yeah, I guess you're right. I never should have started this argument, this is not the right place for it really.

I wonder why Rockstar always gives bonuses to PS3 owners but not Xbox owners...didn't Red Dead have an extra gang hideout and outfit that the Xbox didn't have? I wonder if I can change my game version...but I like my Xbox better than my PS3...oooh...I said that out loud...

@shadow580, I do know the differences you're talking about, don't get me wrong.

Ex-DarkBlade
Ex-DarkBlade

@shadow580, I am just trying to say that porting games is getting better and the differences are getting smaller. Also not many gamers care if the game they're playing is better on another console. This line: "Anyway who cares which version of the game looks better the game is suppose to be played and be enjoyed not to be boasted." wasn't applying to you.

Ex-DarkBlade You haven't seen accurate comparisons. I never said I cared which one is better or try to boast. Why are you putting words in my mouth? Also, if you don't care so much stop talking about this. This was never meant for you anyway.

For the people who own a 360 but no PS3 wont have to worry as the content will probably appear on xbox live aswell when the exclusivity contract runs out, like with the episodes of liberty city add ons. In the end the only winner is Rockstar as they probably received a nice sum of money to keep it PS3 exclusive for a while.

@shadow580, I saw multiple clips of Red Dead: Redemption running on both systems and all I can see is that sometimes PS3's is better and sometimes Xbox's is better but both version look almost the same. Anyway who cares which version of the game looks better the game is suppose to be played and be enjoyed not to be boasted. Plus I don't get this: " Thumb down if you want but this is as cold and hard truth as it gets."

AWESOME!!! Micro$oft always rips Sony by getting MANY developers to make their content exclusive to Xbox, about time Sony does the same.

@MEDzZ3RO why are you telling me this? You are saying I'm trying to make some sort of a news headline but in fact I was answering a question someone ELSE asked. Anyway, don't say something is common knowledge and then write a wall of text about it. I presented my case well, do your own research if you don't believe me (I even wrote the very same thing in that post). I never said RDR ran poorly on ps3, I said it is far from being equal to the 360 version ( not a good port but by no means a bad port). Don't try to school me about ports, I know all about them.

"Now, gamers will have an option to further customize the content they receive" Customize? You mean get shafted out of DLC because of the system they use, or the place they buy it. Nice attempt at marketing spin though ;)

MEDzZ3RO
MEDzZ3RO

@shadow580 Is that supposed to be some sort of breaking news headline?, it's common knowledge alot of multiplatform games are tailored to 360 specs and then ported to the PS3, there are multiple reasons for this: - Porting games inbetween PC and 360 and vice versa takes days but takes weeks on PS3. -It would be difficult to make a game tailored to PS3 specs and then port it to 360 largely because more is technically possible on PS3. They'd have to downscale. - It used to be the case that the 360 market was that bit larger then the PS3 market that devs focused most on the 360 version and did a half-cut port to the PS3. Pretty much lazy developers. There's no reason it shouldn't run well on PS3, Square Enix have shown it's possible. If anything a bad PS3 port just make developpers look incompetent and incapable. Granted the cells and SPEs are new to most but it's been 4-5 years now... It's pretty irrelevant though because different devs are known to work better with one system rather then another and Red Dead Redemption runs well on both systems; it seems a rather irrelevant fact to bring up.

MEDzZ3RO

About time developers started giving the PS3 some love, especially Rockstar who practically made themselves on the PS2 platform. All we heard about was Lost and Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony, 1 month CoD dlc exclusive access..etc... It seems more developers are warming to the PS3 platform what with the PS3 v ersion of Mortal Kombat getting Kratos and now this. It's all good.

I think the important thing is that people don't get jealous because the xbox 360 gets L.A Noire as well. I am kinda surprised that they didn't disclose this information sooner because some people get pissed off because the chose a particular console over another because of ''exclusive'' games, take Final Fantasy 13 for example. A lot of people got pissed off when it arrived on the 360 because they had already bought ps3 specifically for it and kinda felt cheated because they could have picked the 360 just as well for less cash. In any case, exclusive games are bad for gamers in the end because they limit your options. I sure as hell want to play gears of war but I can't because it's not on ps3 and they didn't release number 2 on the PC. Who does this hurt? -The consumer, me and you. Metal Gear solid rising will be released on both consoles. I get to play it and I'm happy with that, why should I be pissed off if someone on 360 can experience the same epicness as I? I do have to admit I bought the ps3 specifically for MGS4 so I ask developers to tell people early on which consoles a particular game will be released on so people don't feel cheated when they realize they might as well had gotten the other console (probably most people have long since bought their console so this doesn't matter as much as it did when they were released but you get my point). Make multiplatform not war.

As long as the PS3 version looks as good as the 360 version (aka in actual 720p) then it's fine. That's all I really care about, this extra mission is a bonus.

@darkcomedian: I agree. I was planning this to be a day one buy, but now thinking about picking this up when GOTY edition comes out, more so considering lack of any multiplayer means no fear of not having anyone to play online.

I'll buy it on PS3 since I only have one console. Microsoft doesnt give a sh*t to SE Asia's gamers much so why should we spend our hard-earned money to them?

@supa_stud and @Ex-DarkBlade I'm not trying to flame RDR in any way, but there is a significant difference in resolution, framerate, AA, flickering, vegetation, pop in effect, self shadowing, the list goes on. Suffice it to say, xbox 360 version is technically superior by no small margin. This game is not really comparable to GTA IV even though they use the same engine because of the difference of the setting of which the games take place. It's still looking gorgeous on the ps3, don't get me wrong, but it was simply built around xbox 360 hardware specification in mind and not the ps3's. There is a lot of technicality involved and I didn't intend to go so deep into this matter. Keep in mind that I'm no fanboy, I even own the ps3 version of it. If you want further proof you can find this information along with more detail online. Thumb down if you want but this is as cold and hard truth as it gets.
