Power Rangers on Tour
Reactor ride takes center stage at traveling PR circus.
The TV show Power Rangers in Space debuts Friday on the Fox Kids Network, and in order to promote that show (and the subsequent toy line that accompanies it) the Rangers' masters have put together what they're calling the Power Rangers Rocket Tour.
Saban Entertainment, which owns the license to the Rangers, and toy-maker Bandai are working with Iwerks Entertainment to create the Rocket Tour, which combines a Power Rangers film with Iwerks' Reactor mobile ride simulation.
And they're sending that Reactor on the road.
The Rocket Tour's first stop is the New York Toy Fair, where the ride will be from today through Feb. 10. Then, The Power Rangers Rocket Tour will hit 14 other cities from March through May, offering Rangers fans and the simply curious free rides in Boston (Feb. 29-March 1), Chicago (March 21-22), Dallas (April 18-19), and Los Angeles (May 30-31), among other cities.
The Reactor ride synchronizes the movement of each seat's hydraulic motion base with the onscreen action; in this ride, the Power Rangers blast off to their Astro Megaship in space on a mission to destroy Ecliptor's ultimate weapon before he destroys earth. Their adventure takes them to the planet Scarpa to navigate asteroid fields, lava tunnels, Ecliptor's Forbidden City, and acid rivers.
