PlayStation Plus free games of May for PS4, PS3 and Vita announced

Puppeteer is coming to PS3 for all regions and PS4 owners will get a free copy of Stick it to the Man.

This story has been updated to reflect the PlayStation Plus games for the US.

Sony has revealed a preview of the free games PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download to their Sony systems this May. These games will replace some of the April PlayStation Plus deals, so you'll want to download those now while they're still free. But it's also important to keep in mind that you can add these games to your account through the Sony store even if you don't currently own a system; it's a good way to start padding out your library now if you plan on possibly making a future investment in a Vita or PS4.

For PS3

Puppeteer -- a platformer made by SCE Japan Studio and released last September.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (US ONLY) -- The US gets the digital version of the biggest sport in the world, which was available last month for the EU.

Skullgirls Encore (US ONLY) -- an update of the popular 2D fighter with "new systems, new stages and music, balance adjustments, gameplay tweaks and more."

Payday 2 (EU ONLY) -- First-person shooter that, much like its Heat-inspired predecessor, lets players play through a variety of heists, ranging from convenience stores to banks.

For PS Vita

Limbo (US ONLY)-- a stark, dark indie platformer

Surge Deluxe (US ONLY) -- An electricity-themed block-matching puzzle game.

Muramasa Rebirth (EU ONLY) -- the Vita port of Vanillaware's gorgeous Wii action-RPG, Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Everybody's Golf (EU ONLY) -- Better known as Hot Shots Golf in North America.

For PS4

Stick it to the Man -- Originally released on PlayStation 3 and Vita last year, the platforming-adventure game is being brought to PS4 later this month in Europe and early May in North America. It will not be available as a cross-buy title with the PS3 and Vita versions.

How does the free game line-up look? Are you happy with your available choices, or was there something else you were really hoping to get for free this month? Let us know in the comments below.

I just had to buy Puppeteer when it was on sale. Oh well.

Well, hoping June will turn out better.

Close call! Just bought Muramasa Rebirth, luckily it's EU only.
Other than that i already own Skullgirls on PC (very good BTW), and have already finished Limbo (PC again). Puppeteer and Surge for me only. Sports game are extremely boring to me...

And people, it's a crappy month, but the subscription is yearly, please don't act like you've been deceived, as crappy as these games are, their value already surpasses the cost of the subscription.

finished stick it to the man within 2 hours, didn't even need a walkthrough. is this literally all you are going to be offering for free sony coz if so i might just go back to pc instead and sell my ps4.

The free games for May suck!

The only free PS4 game that was worth my subscription was Outlast. The rest are sad filler games (8-16 bit graphs, platformers and +1 year old games previously on PS3) that go well with the recent backgammon and chess releases. Not the type of games I was planning to play on the PS4.

Not the bad but I hope June will offer A great PS3 games at least

I stopped buying older games since I signed up for PS+

Too bad there isn't enough on the PS4 to make it worthwhile... time to give out those release-date tiles for us subscribers.

ps4's free games have been awful the past few months. mercenary kings and now this lol. of course I understand there is hardly any games out yet so they can't exactly give away aaa games just yet, but they could at least give us the outlast dlc for free or something. It will get better in time, I am just sick of paying monthly sub and being given crap games for ps4 while ps3 gets brilliant ones. thank god I decided to keep my ps3 as well.

I honestly thought the PS4 would get Strike Suit Zero: Directors Cut. Guess maybe it's to new or something.

Edit: New on the PS4, not the PC.

Well, Chris Pereira, it's almost June and Americans are the second (brazilians are the first) largest public that is coming to see the World Cup in Brazil....maybe that's why we got PES14? But I agree...this month's free psn games won't be that good.

besides limbo and skull girls (PES if you're a soccer animal)

those games are pretty shit

hell even limbo and skull girls isn't that good..

Puppeteer is an overlooked game. I bought it for $3-4 on sale from PSN a couple months back. The presentation is awesome. The gameplay is solid. It's genuinely fun.

My kids really enjoy watching me play the game. The story and presentation keep them engaged from moment to moment.

I'm glad to see a sports game added to the Instant Games collection. I don't invest in many at retail. Pro Evolution Soccer is a good start for me.

Well the asian region are getting Tomb Raider, King of Fighter, Classic Boxing and sonic racing

I don't understand the 'US' & 'EU' only tags, are Sony not an international company? why the differing offers for different country/regions?

Raxyman
Raxyman

@Aaronp2k Yeah Sony, give us a 60U$ game like Second Son, after all we're paying 50U$ per year. Is this a ripoff or what?

Look, nobody forced you to sign plus, and if you own only a PS4 you're too hasty. Anyone with half a brain could tell that PS+ wouldn't give anything good for PS4 at least within a year. PS3 and Vita are where the spoils really are.

Aaronp2k
Aaronp2k

@Prismet  exactly. it will be ages till we start getting good games. starting to regret buying ps4 so early.

@Naylord  Same here. Sony is playing this smart, though. They're turning us all into gamblers and it's making them $$$ probably.

@quickshooterMk2  Puppeteer is the best free game this month.

Not a bad list of freebies at all actually… especially if you like soccer and get PES.

Raxyman

@DEATH775 We already have TR and KoF ages ago. Boxing is as boring as soccer and Sonic R... Actually i'd like that, XD. You can't be perfect right?

RedWave247
RedWave247

@Zombrex  Yeah, because Puppeteer getting a 9/10 score makes it a lame game.

Zombrex
Zombrex

@Sarijon  They have SCEA and SCEE(I think) for each respective region. Because the world is a big place and each region handles things differently.

Zombrex
Zombrex

Oh my God you're so right. Because someone else gave it a high score I should instantly love it despite my personal tastes and preferences. Thanks for reminding me that I should never try to be an individual.

@kitty I don't know. I was a big fan of the first two TR games, and liked a couple of the others. When the reboot was came out the marketing made it pretty clear it was an action-adventure/TPS, not a platformer, and it was a very good one. Plus, remember that in the early TR games the controls and platforming were pretty terrible.

Raxyman
Raxyman

@kitty A bit off-topic, but you will never get a TR game if you think like that. Times have changed, you can't have somethings anymore. TR gameplay was made like that out of hardware limitations, look at this:
http://www.dorkly.com/article/60407/graphical-limitations-that-helped-define-awesome-characters
While you can actually make a game similar to the classics, it'll be only a massage to people's nostalgia felling. I own all TR games on Steam, it's a great game indeed, but there's no way a game like that would be released nowadays. It wouldn't sell, people would rage in forums without actually having any knowledge in TR series, and the publisher/developer name would be stained. It happened similar things before.

I want some games with the classic gameplay as well, but let's face it, it won't happen. Every attempt that gaming companies made were supressed by "gamers" with knowledge only of CoD.

TL;DR "While it is a good game, it is not a "tomb raider" game.", if you already came expecting classic TR feeling, and still could see that it's a good game, that shows how good really is. Every reboot is hated by diehard fans. It's frustrating, but we have to accept that we'll never get that same feeling that the PS1 era gave us.

@andrewryan123 @quickshooterMk2@DEATH775I'd take Muramasa over Tomb Raider. While it is a good game, it is not a "tomb raider" game. Play the other ones and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Skip Angel of Darkness. While that game isn't bad, it doesn't really fit in with the others. I've been playing Tomb Raider since the PS1 days. The newest one is kind of a disappointment.

@Zombrex  It was actually critically acclaimed across the board, not just Gamespot. So there's clearly something wrong with you.

@Zombrex Hard to see you as an individual when using " For the US " instead of saying something  Like " another lame month with no game I care for ".
