PlayStation games rated R18+ Down Under?

Aussie PSN titles accidentally get nonexistent adult rating.

by

This week on the Australian PlayStation Network Store, the God of War Collection and Dead Man's Hand dynamic theme were made available to buy for A$39.96 ($40.54) and A$3.45 ($3.50), respectively. Now normally this would be a fairly standard and unremarkable occurrence, but early this morning, eagle-eyed observers may have spotted that both items featured an R18+ classification rating on their product pages.

Contrary to what the PSN Store says, the God of War Collection was actually rated MA 15+.

As most gamers in Australia know, there is no adult rating for games in Australia, so was this listing a mistake, or did Sony have access to information that the rest of Australia and the federal government don't have? Unfortunately for those waiting for an R18+ classification, it was the former. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has confirmed to GS AU that this was indeed a mistake and that it would be corrected shortly. False alarm.

Mistake or a subtle nudge? Of course they'd say "oops" but is an experiment of public scrutiny the plan all along? Sony are prone to stunts like this.

Hmm, The only problem is that I would instead export the game at a cheaper price. That is such a problem.

I'm not sure this is a mistake. I just found an ad in the paper for COD Black Ops at Harvey Norman stating it's rated 18+, Coincidence?

Sony must be used to dealing with modern countries, and forgot to account for us in Australia having a backwards government.

Sony supports the R18+ rating. There's no excuse now. HURRY UP, AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT AND GIVE US THE DAMN RATING.

I had a good chuckle when I saw this yesterday. Is this Sony's underhanded way of showing support for an R18+ for games by rating the game themselves? I'm sure this is no accident.
