PlayStation Employee Goes Above and Beyond to Help Gamer With Cerebral Palsy

A PlayStation employee came to the aid of a gamer suffering from Cerebral Palsy, after he contacted the company to explain the DualShock 4's touchpad was making it difficult for him to play.

"When I use the PlayStation 4 controller my game constantly pauses because my left hand hits the touchpad which is frustrating for me," New Jersey-based gamer Peter Byrne explained in a Facebook post. "Around two weeks ago, I decided to message PlayStation support and they gave this email address and said tell them my issue and wait for a response."

His message was answered by Alex Nawabi, who said that he'd take it upon himself to do what he can and help Peter with his situation. Nawabi proceed to build a custom one-of-a-kind controller that disables the touchpad and replaces it with a button on the back of the controller.

Amazingly, Nawabi--who works in PlayStation's retail marketing operations--says it was the first time attempting something like this. His full message can be found below.

"I honestly got choked up reading the letter as I did not expect anything like this to happen," Peter added in his Facebook message. "Mr. Nawabi really cared about my situation and did this on his own time to make my experience better. I honestly can't thank him enough for everything he did for me. Thank you Mr. Nawabi it really means a lot too me!"

The heartwarming story was picked up by mainstream media and, since then, Nawabi has responded to the outpouring of support and praise.

"Really didn't expect this," he said. "Thank you all for the kind words. I'm eternally grateful. Seeing how happy he is, and how stoked his mom got, has me in tears."

He continued on to praise PlayStation's R&D teams effort to also make gaming on Sony's platforms as accessible as possible.

"Please keep in mind that the Research and Development team at PlayStation is filled with some absolutely astounding individuals who wake up every day and try to come up with a solution for everyone.

"What I did only works for a single individual and it should not undermine their work in any way. I cannot stress this enough. Without them, we wouldnt even be close to what we are today. If you're not aware, they've recently added more accessibility settings that let you remap buttons to help with a large portion of needs. Their team members are the true MVPs."

He ended by saying: "I've always cared, I always will care."
