PlayStation 4 heading to Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

Sony to demo next-generation console during late night network program this Wednesday.

The PlayStation 4 will make an appearance on NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday, according to a schedule posted on the show's website (via NeoGAF).

The succinct description only says, "Sony PS4. Video game demo." Joining Sony on this Wednesday's show will be Law & Order actor Ice-T, an outspoken video game fan.

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon airs at 12:35 a.m. The PS4 will be released publicly on November 15 in North America for $400.

This is not the first time Fallon has invited game developers onto his show. Past guests of Fallon's annual Video Game Week included former Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, Naughty Dog developers Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, as well as Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, among others.

The article shouldn't be misleading. It says that it will be on Wednesday, but according to the schedule on DirecTV, it seems it will be on Thursday instead. Doesn't GameSpot realize that a new day begins at 12:00 AM, aka 0:00 in the 24 hour clock format.

I couldn't find a PS4 article.

Will TVersity still work on PS4 without having massive issues?

Well it is a comedy show after all!

Oh wow, I wasn't aware his video game segments were of such caliber; I am interested. If I can remember, I may just watch his show on Wednesday. Haven't watched his show since around the time he first started - during  that whole issue with Conan (which I will watch with some kind of regularity -  his clueless gamer spots are amusing), NBC and Jay Leno.

I liked Jimmy Fallon playing games on his show, before I knew he sucked at them. The idea is cool, and I like seeing the consoles on there, but when I watch him play... It's just kind of embarrassing.

The one thing Conan has over Fallon, is that at least Conan admits he is terrible at gaming. :P

This is the second time Jimmy Fallon has had the PS4 on his show. The first time he was playing Watch Dogs, and he almost failed a mission by losing the contact car lol.

I like when Conan reviews games, let him play some PS4 games.

Jimmy Fallon sucks. He's awkward and the complete opposite of humor.

The problem is (and for the record, I am fortunate enough to be buying both consoles...), It doesn't matter how many pixels the machine can render, how much faster it runs, how much better it looks, how much better the hardware seems, etc, etc, etc when the PS4 controller (ditto for PS3) looks like ass. It's something that isn't really mentioned but is (arguably) the most important thing. If it's anything like the dual shock 3, and let's face it, it looks pretty much the same, it is rubbish. How anybody can play FPS games with those thumbsticks I shall never know. Same goes for any game where precision movements are needed. I've been able to play an Xbone and if nothing else, I think that controller is as close to perfection as console controllers can get.

Having not used a DS4 yet, I can only hope...

@Ragnawind I'm sure they realize that but saying it will be showed early Thursday morning sounds weird when the show is called "Late Night" with Jimmy Fallon

@Grenadeh TVersity is for DLNA, right? PS4 will not support DLNA at launch. If you don't know what DLNA is, it is a media server protocol

Oops that was on Conan Obrian. Jimmy Fallon was playing Killzone Shadow Fall and was barely able to aim properly and shoot. Obviously he was playing on easy or else he would have died quite a few times. They probably didn't want him to look like a noob on live tv.

@Diegoctba this is games related, you can watch the show to see a live demo of games on PS4. It is relevant around here.

@Loyal_Royal even people that loved the 360 controller the most and have tried the ps4 and Xbox one controller are saying not only is the ps4 controller better then the Xbox ones controller it is actually the best controller they have ever used

@Loyal_Royal The Xbox controller ultimately designed to make as much money as possible (Play and charge kits)

Just a fact. Both controllers are very nice otherwise.

horizonwriter

@Loyal_Royal What the hell is with gamers today and their whining about the DS3 and now the DS4, and how are you not used to it's layout by now? Seeing as how it's the evolution of the NES, and more accurately, the SNES controller we've been playing on this basic design for nearly 3 decades. Almost 7 years before there was any XBox console on the market there was the PS1 and it's controller which is a design that hasn't changed much at all over the nearly 18 years of the Playstation line's existence. How is it that now it's such a difficult controller to work with? Even with how radically different in design the N64 and Gamecube controllers were I never encountered a problem with them that 10 minutes of warm up play wouldn't cure. I can use a DS3 or a 360 controller with equal prowess and experience no problem with any game genre on either system. Can we stop being whiny elitists who put up mental blocks against every small thing and detail in gaming imaginable, start remembering how adaptable we USED to be and just enjoy the experience? Damn.

And for the record as Nintendo with the Wii U and Sony with the Vita have found out, the games are the most important thing concerning a console or handheld, not the controller.

@Loyal_Royal Whatever you say....the DS4 is top-notch, I own one and it feels amazing.  $ony controllers have always been the best.  When a company can't even make a decent D-Pad you know it spells trouble.

@leimonides

It's not all that fun, or funny though. It's more like a raise of the eyebrow in surprise, almost cringeworthy. I wish it was fun. I like Jimmy Fallon, but when he plays games on his show, it's not that fun. Conan on the other hand, while he's not good at it, they segment it well, and that's a lot of fun. He seems to be adequate and his commentaries are worth it alone.

crunchb3rry
crunchb3rry

@SweatySasquatch It's more like Fallon's people just tell him to put the videogame shit on the show. Because they're that desperate to capture the demographic. Meanwhile, people like Craig Ferguson pulled in bigger "dedicated" audiences just being themselves, completely outside of demographics and whatnot. I remember Craig doing a whole monologue about how he hates his monologues because he's ragging on celebrities while himself being a recovering alcoholic and feeling like a hypocrite for scrutinizing celebrities. Craig Ferguson is the only latenight host I respect. Fuck Leno, Fallon, Letterman, even Conan too. If Leno ever gets the pink slip he's earned for decades, I hope Ferguson gets his job, not Conan.

@horizonwriter It's not suddenly difficult. It's always sucked. The difference is since the Type J Xbox controller we've had something better to compare it to, when before it was just either DreamCast - which no one owned or played - or PlayStation, with a clearly better controller.

AzureBonds76
AzureBonds76

@horizonwriter I agree the thumbsticks different positions on both controllers don't make any real difference in gaming performance or comfortability.

I have small hands and can use the 360 controller with no problems.

goutetsuo
goutetsuo

@horizonwriter Actually the analog sticks on the DS3 are horrible, he is right. Why you think even military even uses xbox 360 controllers to control drones and whatnot and not ps3 controller? Its all about the accuracy. you cant beat the sticks on the 360 controller. however they lacked on the d-pad which no one can argue with, which makes ps a better console for fighters. But looks like xb1 controller fixed that issue...so they might have the better controller in the bag.

Loyal_Royal
Loyal_Royal

@horizonwriter Just because the Wii U and Vita tried something different with their controller, that doesn't make it good. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that Monster Hunter (as a specific example) would've benefited greatly from having a "normal, decent" controller. The argument about old controllers is irrelevant also, the fact is, the Xbox did come out and it's controller was awesome.

Also, in case you didn't notice, there are two new consoles coming out this month, and they both look extremely similar on paper. The "small things and details" are exactly what should be looked at when deciding between them. Personally, I always found the PS3 controller to feel a bit too "plasticky." The triggers weren't really triggers, the thumbsticks were far too loose and overall, it just seems too small for the average person. Of course, we all differ in shape and size so the last point is definitely a personal preference thing.

I actually don't care what console "wins" as I'll have both, I'd just rather see balanced arguments as opposed to "OMG 720p last gen" or "OMG PS3.5 launch games suck."

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@NbAlIvEr10000 @Loyal_Royal So just because you personally think the DS has always been king, when there are studies proving people prefer the Xbox controller, that makes it the best. The dualshock was good, once - in 1998. Not since.

@leimonides

Yeah, I know. I mentioned Halo 4, which I was saying Fallon played; recommending you watch that. I think the reason I disliked it was because he did seem to have an interest in games, and that's fine, but it felt kind of like a lie when I finally saw him play. He probably has too many other things going on to even play games, so it's understandable.

I just kind of wished he would say he doesn't play games that much, even though he enjoys them. Doesn't matter though, because even though he's not great, I'd still watch it for the consoles. I don't think he brings games on solely because of the fans of his show, though that's probably partially why.

While I said it felt like a lie, I don't believe he's faking his interest of games, but I don't think he plays all that much, which would have been nice if he conveyed. On the other hand, Conan always starts with the, I'm not good at games; I don't particularly like games. Fallon playing games doesn't bother me as much as you may think, but it's not ideal to me.

leimonides
leimonides

@NTM23 Is he said to be an actual gamer of some sort - or at least have an honest interest in the industry? Is it that it is coming across...not genuine? Fallon also did Halo 4 (as I know Conan has)

NTM23
NTM23

@leimonides

Halo 4's a good example I'd say, but there's more. There's a difference between the presentation of Fallon playing, and Conan. I like how Conan does it more. The skill isn't really what bothers me, though that is a factor. It's other things that surround it.

leimonides
leimonides

@NTM23 @leimonides Hm. I'll have to try to find some clips of Fallon's segments. I wish Conan's were a little more frequent - even if there were more 'web exclusive clips' more so than what actually airs on TV.

@Grenadeh Grendaeh I notice you often on these Sony articles posting again and again. Can I ask you personally why you need to root for your home team ? Microsoft is not paying you to defend their console.

Before you make some smart ass comment back, I am not the kind of person in real life you would talk trash to. So mind your P's & Q's  If you don't have anything positive to add, just find something else to do.

Grenadeh

@tom2750 @goutetsuo @horizonwriter Rofl really, the PS3 controller didn't have dead zones. That must be why Demon's Souls, a PS3 exclusive game, controls like Resident Evil 1.

Clearly they intentionally made the game control like shit, instead of utilizing the PS3s amazing sticks.

That must be why God of War's analog stick QTE's are fucking terrible, especially on the PSP HD ports. But oh, no, that's because the PSPs stick is so bad, right?

Or why the sensitivity and aiming movement itself is so ridiculously laughable on Killzone, Killzone 2, AND Killzone 3.

Because it has the best sticks. Tool.

The only thing about the 360 controller that isn't perfect is the d-pad which does in fact suck for fighting games.

tom2750
tom2750

@goutetsuo @horizonwriter the ps3 had the most accurate sticks you moron the 360 had dead zones the ps3 controller didn't this Is a known fact and I doubt the military uses 360 controller they may look the same but they are probably completely custom made for the military and aren't the same as the controller that you buy at the local electronic store for your 360

tom2750
tom2750

@Loyal_Royal @horizonwriter I have big hands and I prefer the ps3 controller it came with in built battery they didn't break as easy as the 360 controllers the 360 controllers are big and heavy and give the false expectation that that means there tough but they were far lower quality and broke way easier then the ps3 controller and the ps3 controller had symmetrical sticks and human hands are symmetrical so anyone who says the ps3 sticks are in the wrong place have no idea what they are talking about some people may prefer the sticks of the 360 that's only because they are used to them because they use them a lot if they went to ps3 for a month they would be like wow these are were sticks should be placed it doesn't matter how unnatural a controller is a persons muscle memory will adapt to it eventually but the ps3 sticks are in a better place the ps3 controller also had motion control it may of only been basic but I worked decent in some games overall I think the ps3 had the better controller

horizonwriter
horizonwriter

@Loyal_Royal @horizonwriter I didn't say the Wii U or the Vita were good. You actually missed the point completely on that one.

What paper are you looking at because I see a more powerful console when looking at the PS4's hardware? Not so much of a difference that fanboys should disrespect each other over but enough to be easily noticed. The majority of differences between the two consoles - the XBox One being able to have your TV service ran through it and just being the better entertainment center piece in general outside of gaming, their price difference, how the PS4 is able to run games at a higher frame and resolution easier, etc. - are not small differences. Controllers that we've been playing on for years now suddenly being just too much to work with not only sounds small but strange as hell. I'll agree that the DS3 is smaller than it should be and everyone knows that the triggers were just an outright crappy design, but I can still use it with no discomfort. On the next-gen side I've held the DS4. It's larger, has better weight, the triggers are vastly improved, and (not that I ever had a problem with the DS3 sticks) the sticks give more resistance on the DS4. Personal opinion - I think the XBox controller has a better layout but it doesn't affect how well I play games and it definitely doesn't influence my decision on which console I get. That honor goes to the exclusives, whether they be announced or lay potentially in the future.

For the record, I don't care which one wins either. I don't think about what everyone else bought with their hard earned money while I'm at home playing games and if you ever catch me making a flimsy "720p last gen" or "PS3.5" fanboy-ish argument call me out on that crap immediately.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@Loyal_Royal @SavageEvil @NbAlIvEr10000 I've played enough Southpaw on Xbox - on the larger old controllers - to know anyone who says that is full of shit. It's not remotely difficult unless you're just terrible.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@SavageEvil @Loyal_Royal @NbAlIvEr10000 No one uses Southpaw. If you do, you suck. That's right, that's what I said.

Also, no. No, and no. People aren't symmetrical as much as you think they are. The Xbox controller does not favor the right hand and if your statement made any sense whatsoever, the left hand would be the one favored because it's right next to the triggers while  your right hand has to cover more controller.

Loyal_Royal
Loyal_Royal

@SavageEvil @Loyal_Royal @NbAlIvEr10000 Now THAT is a good argument. I can't argue with that. I imagine trying to play southpaw would be a nightmare, or at least more difficult on a 360/Xbone controller. I still stand by what I said about the two, and my personal opinion is the same, but you make a good point.

SavageEvil
SavageEvil

@Loyal_Royal @NbAlIvEr10000 Your controller should cover all inputs which it tries to give you, so having a useless D-Pad means bad design still. DS has a badly designed D pad itself. I prefer the DS to the 360 controller simply because it's symmetrical and allows perfect balance in both hands and equal access to all four top buttons and triggers. Thing is no one seems to notice that the 360 favors the right hand trigger and button as the left hand is too close to the buttons because of the stick placement. Didn't know that many people were asymmetrical, lol. Playing southpaw on a 360 is er, um...well not the same as swapping driving positions in a car.
