PlayStation 4 has a 500GB hard drive

Sony confirms next-gen console's hard drive size; PlayStation Eye camera will retail for $60.

The PlayStation 4 has a 500GB hard drive--the same size as the Xbox One--Sony confirmed as part of a recently released fact sheet regarding the next-generation platform.

In addition, PlayStation Eye cameras will not be included with PS4 systems. Instead, they will be available as peripherals for $60 each.

Additional DualShock 4 controllers will sell for $60.

By comparison, the Kinect 2.0 is included with every Xbox One and has been described as an integral component of Microsoft's next-generation machine.

The PS4 will launch this year at $400, while the Xbox One will be available for $500.

Why are people commenting on whether or not the HDD size is enough when they don't even know the size of the games?

Why is it that $ony has 500gb HDD and everyone says that's enough but M$ has the same and it's not enough? I understand its replaceable but Xbone allows external HDD, I'm sure the ps4 will as well. When MS announced it everyone said they would make it so you had to buy their external drive. Is someone going to make 3rd party ps4 HDD? Probably not. Why the hypocrisy? I'm still leaning to the ps4 because of the lower price but let's be a little objective here.

PS4's HDD is also replaceable just like the PS3's unlike the XBox One's.

Oh Sony is not bundling the Eye with the PS4.  Therefore no-one will buy it so no games will support and it will be another one of Sony's many failed peripherals.  Come 6 months after the PS4 release you will never hear Sony mention it again.  Don't ask me why a company spends money developing a manufacturing a device they have no intention of selling or supporting but after this video I've saw on youtube today I'm pretty sure the entertainment division at Sony is run by a bunch of 15 year olds so that might explain it.

lets not forget that today sony also announced that you will be able to switch out the hard drive in the ps4 just like they did with the ps3.that means hard drive space is not an issue in the future and there cloud service launches in 2014

So we dont get motion sensing if we dont want it, Great news !. Ive always played games with controllers so using hand signals and other stuff just feels weird imo :).

Sony is doing everything right this year. MS made a lot of stupid mistakes since they let a little success go to their head. Funny Sony and MS switch positions from 06 already.

xbox should have done away with that kinect stuff no one wants it but your going to make use/buy it,they might could have sold for 400 to

At least Sony isn't force feeding us the Eye (Spy) unlike M$. Though if M$ did opt to sell Kinect separately their system may be on par price wise....

monson21502

just hope thats enough space..... if ps4 needs game data installs like ps3 did 500 wont be close to enough.. unless sony is not filling up the discs full anti pirate code and lets devs use the whole blu ray discs for games instead. good thing is i know ms wont do that they squeezed some really great games out of them old dvd discs on 360. and the games they showed on xbox one looks even better all open ended worlds sky is the limit when devs are givin a choice....

monson21502
monson21502

hope the eye is better then the last 1.. cant tell u how many times i tried to get that damn thing to read my EOJ cards. i ended up smashing it against the wall when i got a headset because after sony just dropped support for eye of judgement the eye was only used as a mic because sony was too cheap to put a 8 dollar headset in the 500 dollar 60 gig ps3 i bought

monson21502
monson21502

hope sony makes warhawk 2... that and the eye of judgement was the only kept me from selling my ps3 in the early years when sony`s main goal was to keep the ps2 going and making great rpgs and god of war 2 for ps2 while making only a very elect few games for ps3.. i will not do that again this gen. i will wait till there is more good games on ps4 before i buy in

KrazzyDJ

Actually, that's a good thing. Now we have the choice of NOT buying the EYE considering that it's being sold separate. No eye means no one to spy. Win-Win !!!

So acutally the consoles are the same cost! Hahahaha Sony minused the eye toy thingy to make the price less that's great strategic stuff right there hahahaha so for those who also want the eye toy will pay the same as the xboner!

Sony doesn't want to spy or control us like Microscam.

Not interested in the 'motion sensing' games at all... so I'm actually happy Sony left the camera out and delivered the $399 price tag.  Giving gamers the option to choose is huge... right MS???

lukey52

Given how little value the Kinect seemed to give to any of the games shown off by Microsoft (or an Eye for PS4), I don't see this non inclusion as an issue.

I'd rather pay $100 less and not have an eye included and pick it up in the future if needed for much less. Microsoft could have released the console for a lot less if they didn't force everyone into being spied upon with the kinect.

blackwingzero

So are they going to allow their hard drive to be swaped out or is it going to be strictly internal like the Xbox One's?

Jyakotu

I predict that Sony will soon have a bundle that includes the PS Eye and a game in the future. But as it stands, the PS4 is a great value.

@Enforcer246 games are gonna be 25 or 50gb depending on the type of bluray disc the dev for tha game used. thats if the game maxes out the bluray. otherwise it could be anywhere less. but considering 1080p textures can take alot of space i would guess each game will be at least 12gb

CaveManCobb
CaveManCobb

@MrArmageddon17 Its not hypocrisy. You are required to download games to your hard drive with the xbox one. 500 gigs will fill up fast with bluray.

RamblinManne
RamblinManne

@MrArmageddon17 If I'm not mistaken it's because Microsoft is pushing the whole digital game thing and so 500GB doesn't seem like a lot if you're going to be installing all your games on your HDD.

@WillyWynn Based on what? You're a consumer. You have the dollars, buy. You don't, stay home. That's the way business goes, kid. Grow up and stop posting stupid comments. Nobody really gives a fuck what you think.

@WillyWynn Just enough to make up for the $100 difference in each console bought.

Damn, that's a lot.

@monson21502 M$ is reported to have FULL game installs, and game data installs on PS3 weren't that bad at all.

@monson21502 Shuhei just confirmed over Twitter that you can upgrade the HDD yourself just like the PS3.

@daemonproject

For starters, $400 + $60 = $460; not $500.

Secondly, you’re assuming everyone who buys these wants a PS Eye or a Kinect.I’m sure there are plenty of people out there would would gladly dump the Kinect and pay $350 (original Kinect launched at $150).

Microsoft packaging every system with Kinect wasn’t for consumer benefit, it was to ensure the developers had the install base to feel secure in supporting the device at the start, instead of delaying development to wait and see how many people buy the individual device. You will see plenty of games that support Kinect in some form, you won’t see many PS Eye games in the first year or two, if at all.

HazaRDReborN
HazaRDReborN

@lukey52 no one is spied upon, are you still in a cave? that problem was resolved a week ago the kinect can be turned off and set to a users likes. now for your phrase "and pick it up in the future if needed for much less". LOL. For much less? Are you by any chance implying that Sony's basically camera with a catchy name is anything near the technology of the kinect and that their value is anywhere near the same league? First of all it doesn't offer even half the technology of the kinect, so it's not really "I can pick it up later" because it's not the same thing. And like I said, it isn't worth even half of the kinect in pricing. MS may have forced that kinect on consoles, but I'm surprised the price isn't higher. A 360 + kinect would cost more, and this looks like they are being quite reasonable with pricing.

But that is a matter of taste. For years XBOX in my opinion offered better tech at better pricing. This year it seems they offer similar tech (console wise) and would have at better pricing if it wasn't for the kinect. I'm not convinced it's the best move, however now I simply CANT imagine the XB-ONE without the kinect, even if they sold a separate version without it it would still feel wrong. So I am conflicted. However initial point stands. The eye is nothing like the kinect, if the eyes costs 60, kinect actual value should be around 150. Getting a system that has the whole package for $40 more does not sound anywere near as bad, however the problem of not having a choice I agree can be perhaps frustrating.

MrArmageddon17
MrArmageddon17

I don't think that most games will be all that big. On PC high end games seem to be around 15gigs. This can be different depending on the operating system so I can't say for sure on the Xbone.

MrArmageddon17
MrArmageddon17

True. I am ignorant on how the PS3 works. I thought you had to install games. I assume I am mistaken.

xxYetterxx
xxYetterxx

No I'm quite serious. Sony is bad at this game. This is not the first time Sony has spent a bunch of money on a wasted peripheral. Now what is the point of having the light bar in the controller? Again, it is just an underrealized and underexecuted plan. And I stand by what I said before, I think this video is immature, but I'm glad you like it.

@xJackelx @xxYetterxx

WillyWynn
WillyWynn

@vexum your comment reveal how much mature you are...  Because i am consumer i cant understand the market! That's is one of  the most stupid argument i ever read in my life... Actually the consumer is who build the market and not the enterprises, enterprises adapt to market and not the consumer.  My point was, with xbox one imminent disaster who will pay the debt? Of course people will loose their jobs period.

@M3o5nster @monson21502 are you kidding me? time and time again i found myself playing my 360 while i was waiting for updates and installations to finish on my ps3.

@lance_7 @daemonproject How many gamers have actually bought into these arm flailing device games, whatever. I just want to sit back and relax when playing my games.

MrArmageddon17
MrArmageddon17

I understand that but that is one game, most aren't that big. You can still get a lot of games on a 500 gig hard drive. I had a 250 gig on my comp and probably had 20 games. I'm saying of all the things to complain about the Xbone this is almost a nonissue.

CaveManCobb
CaveManCobb

@MrArmageddon17 You are still required to download everything to the hard drive. Just for some reference Metal Gear Solid 4 was over 50 gigs.

HazaRDReborN
HazaRDReborN

@M3o5nster @HazaRDReborN @lukey52 not as much as sony pays its fans apparently, lol.

If you had any brains and were not a sony fan yourself you would have realised that I am simply being unbiased. And if you had the chance of catching any of my other comments in general you'd know I am PC gamer and care less about consoles.

I'm just tired of cry babies seeing things one ended because of their biased fandom and here to simply put a balance in the equation.

As for the facts, Sony brought nothing new in terms of innovation to the table in this generation, and I am being realistic and seeing what is what. If Sony fans are buthurt over this then their problem, not mine.
