You'll have to wait until April 6 to watch the first episode in the fourth season of HBO's Game of Thrones series, but starting today, you can play Game of Thrones Ascent. Developed by Disruptor Beam and originally released on Facebook, Kongregate, and other online platforms last year, the social game is now available for iPad through iTunes.
Based on HBO's show and the works of George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones Ascent lets players lead the life of a noble of Westeros. You can play with (or against) other players in a "persistent, authentic world." In-game content from the show's new season will be available every Monday following each new episode.
Game of Thrones Ascent features "thousands" of story-based quests, and players can also partake in Alliance challenges that task players with working alongside others to accomplish "great tasks" and rise to the top of leaderboards.
The game has been optimized for the iPad's Retina display, and also includes Game Center and iOS 7 compatibility and support. Game of Thrones Ascent also features an updated user interface and "improved user flow."
More than 2 million people have already played Game of Thrones Ascent, Disruptor Beam CEO and founder Jon Radoff said in a statement. “We recognize that tablets are actually where so many Game of Thrones fans are either reading the books or watching the TV show,” he said.
Game of Thrones Ascent will be available on Android "in the near future."
The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games is also working on a Game of Thrones title, though it's unclear when the first installment in this series will debut.
