The upcoming Phantom Dust re-release, not to be confused with the scuttled brand-new Phantom Dust, will apparently launch for Xbox One and PC before E3 in June. This was confirmed by Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who said to a fan on Twitter that the game "should ship before E3."

As Microsoft Studios GM Shannon Loftis explained at E3 2016 where the game was announced, the Phantom Dust re-release uses the original assets from the 2004 original. Some "key" parts of the game have been updated, Loftis said, while there is now Xbox Live support for multiplayer.

The Phantom Dust re-release is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. That means when it buy it digitally on Xbox One or PC, you can play it on the other system at no extra cost. Additionally, all progress and achievements move between platforms.

As for the all-new Phantom Dust, this was announced at E3 2014. However, a year later, Microsoft confirmed that the game was no longer in active development following the closure of developer Darkside Games. The game has not been canceled outright, however.

A sort of hybrid of card games and shooters, Phantom Dust earned an 8.5 in GameSpot's review.

We'll report back with more details on the Phantom Dust re-release and other extensions of the series as they become available.
