Ozzy Osbourne earned his reputation as the Prince of Darkness as the frontman for heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath, but the rock icon has solidified that title by way of a string of reality TV shows and shameless marketing promotions. Namely, in the lead up to last November's release of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Ozzy appeared in a 30-second spot in which his in-game representation challenges the Lich King, and is promptly consumed in baleful fire.

As it would turn out, that commercial won't be the end of Ozzy's collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment. The Irvine, California-based developer said today that Ozzy Osbourne will headline the closing ceremony of this year's BlizzCon on August 22. This year's event will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center between August 21-22, with a live Pay Per View special available online and on DirecTV.

As noted by Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime last week, tickets to BlizzCon 2009--20,000 in total--sold out within eight minutes of going on sale. Blizzard has a number of upcoming products that will be on prominent display at the show, including the recently delayed Starcraft II and Diablo III, which was announced last year. According to unconfirmed reports, the publisher will also announce a new expansion for its flagship massively multiplayer online role-playing game, rumored to be titled Cataclysm.

GameSpot will be on hand at next week's show to provide news as it happens.
