Ocarina of Time 3D dated, Wii Play: Motion revealed

Nintendo will ship 3DS remake of Legend of Zelda classic on June 19; new bundle to feature Wii Remote Plus, all-new minigame compilation; full spring schedule inside.

by

Last September, Nintendo pegged the 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a spring 2011 release. Today, the game giant finally dated the title, which will make the spring launch window--barely. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be launched in North America on Sunday, June 19, two days before summer officially begins. The game is a portable, reworked version of the 1998 classic for the Nintendo 64.

Wii Play: Motion will bring 12 new minigames.

Six days before Ocarina of Time sounds off on Nintendo's new handheld, the company will release a sequel to its wildly successful Wii Play controller-and-minigame bundle. Called Wii Play: Motion, the new bundle will sport a black Wii Remote Plus and an all-new compilation of 12 minigames. Among the minigames described are an umbrella-based gliding game and a whack-a-mole-type garden-pest control title involving a virtual mallet.

Ocarina's dating and Wii Play: Motion's announcement were part of Nintendo's unveiling of its entire spring slate. On the Wii, highlights include The Conduit 2 (April 19), Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (May), Thor: God of Thunder (May 3), and Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust (June 27). The DS suite of systems will get Duke Nukem: Critical Mass (Q2), Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (June 7), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon: Autobots and Decepticons (June 14). Last but not least, the 3DS will see the release of Dead or Alive Dimensions (May), BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, (May 24), Cave Story 3D (June 28), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition 3D (June 14).

@Gamer-Geek As much as I want newer games instead of remakes. I think it's great that older games are accesible to each product, so a much broader audience could experience it. It would be sad If people had to find and buy an old N64 just to play Ocarina of Time.

@shadowysea07 true. I wanted to put it that bluntly, but it just pains me so much to rip on anything zelda related.

@Gamer-Geek get over the fact that OoT even remade could outsell anything and its still better then 90% of modern games...... yes its been out alot and maybe that should tell you something >.> updated grathics new controls added 3d oh and its handheld. i own all consoles and like them all but i would never bad mouth a legend.

KieranCottrell How is Yoshis Island the sequel to Super Mario World? Isn't that the game where mario is a baby?

when you think about it the wii turned into a huge library of games based off movies; its like a big advertisement or a playable commercial for movies or upcomeing products

hehehe so the only time I had it was nintendo 64 xD cant wait to play it!

@Gamer-Geek Nintendo isn't 'milking' OOT. They just wanted to make sure it was available to lots of people on multiple consoles so everyone could experience the game. Besides, just cause Nintendo made it available on the GC twice and on the Wii doesn't mean you have to buy it every single time.

Gamer-Geek
Gamer-Geek

As good as ocarina of time maybe, that isn't an excuse to release it onto every single Nintendo console in existence. Stop milking the game

Nintendo owns the Donkey Kong franchise not Rare, so Nintendo could remake Donkey Kong 64 for any of the Nintendo systems if they wanted to, Goldeneye 64 is another story though, as Rare owns the rights to that game, and Activision (unfortunately) has rights to the entire James Bond video game franchise as a whole, thus making a Wii Virtual Console and/or XBL version unlikely unless all 3 sides can work somethin out, iirc Nintendo has been negotiating this for awhile now

It's one thing to respect a game but another when the developer releases the same game over and over to make money.

@captainvictory Aye, i know about skyward sword. I was referring to the ds, i probably should have clarified that though. I bought ocarina when it was released on n64 and again on vc. But its was never anything particularly special to me, even back then. And the 3d on 3ds doesnt seem as impressive to me as 3d with glasses, so to have it in ocarina wouldn't add a thing. Saying these things wont make me popular but i feel like i have given a lot of money and attention to nintendo and i am getting nothing back. With sony and microsoft they just keep giving to us gamers. Screw ninty. Its official guys, i am now a ninty hater. You heard it here.

@musicman998 Go ahead, steal it. If that's how much you care about something that's given you entertainment and pleasure then do it. Some people happen to genuinely like games and their developers, that's all. If you lack all instance of moral and respect then that's fair enough, it's within your rights to act like disrespectful scum. I hope you get caught. Pathetic.

@kavadias1981 Nintendo is making a new Zelda game, Skyward Sword, for the Wii. Also odds are there will be a new Zelda game at some point for the 3DS. Did you even play Ocarina of Time? If so then how could you possible not want a 3D remake of the game?

musicman998
musicman998

Wow, you can download Ocarina of Time for free using an emulator but with this game, you get the 3D EFFECT!! Pathetic.

kavadias1981

This is so lazy. Instead of rereleasing a 12 year-ish old game, why not make a new zelda. As for this wii motion thing, what a waste of money. I bought 2 motion plus for reosrt and have never seen them supported by any other decent game since. I have lost all interest in supporting nintendo anymore. I just feel like i am wasting my money when i buy their stuff. And to think i used to be a fan of theirs. Not anymore. The non gamers can keep them.

@swamptick I'm sure Nintendo could come up with new franchises, but Mario and Zelda are huge, and millions of fans would be disappointed if those two icons left. If Nintendo got rid of Mario and Zelda, they wouldn't be 'Nintendo'. The reason for all the 'remakes' is a testament to the fact that those games were popular and still hold a place in people's hearts, like SM64DS, OOT3D, SF643D, etc. But as far as a NEW franchise, I think Nintendo should revive the 'Mach Rider' character from the NES days. He would be a cool addition to the clan.

Wii Play sequel isn't too bad, Wii Play was a great deal and if this one has better mini-games than the original then it'd be an even better deal for anyone wanting an extra controller.

3DS titles not exactly pouring out. June 19th is when i'll be getting my 3DS then. Bound to be a shiny gold limited edition 3DS adorned with triforces but that might be a little ostentatious for me

A lot of money for a bunch of remakes, spin-offs, and sequels! I'm not dissing the 3DS, I think it's a cool system, but for all the money required to buy the system and games I could enjoy more major console (or PC) games!

@Bread_or_Decide Well I've never played Cave Story so for me Cave Story, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Ocarina of Time 3D and the two Resident evil titles not mentioned will be at least 5 games I want. Then Blaz Blue is worth considering if it has enough characters / additions since it's a very good game. Got to admit though there's not a thing I want on the Wii on that list.

One would suspect the forthcoming Wii price drop to $150 would stimulate sales since first-party titles are few and far between.

Why can't Nintendo come up with some NEW franchises. They should rename themselves "We just make the same old Mario and Zelda games over and over and over and over" (Don't bother responding to this. I don't read responses)
