Nintendo releases TurboGrafx games for Australian Wii owners

11 TurboGrafx games available for Aussies from today.

Nintendo Australia today announced its latest round of title updates for the Wii's Virtual Console. As well as three Sega Mega Drive games, 11 TurboGrafx-16 titles are now being made available for purchase through the Wii download service, the first time the old console's games have been available down under.

Today's announcement makes it a 14-title refresh for Australians this week, bringing the total number of games available on the Virtual Console to 93. Mega Drive games will set you back 800 Wii points each, while TurboGrafx-16 games will cost slightly less at 600 points per game.

The full list of available TurboGrafx games are:
Bonk's Adventure
Bomberman '93
Super Star Soldier
Victory Run
Alien Crush
Military Madness
R-TYPE

Lucky indeed. Although here in the Americas, we are slightly ahead. Which I am thankful for.

Eh... Stuff we have had since around launch. It doesn't really affect me since I live in the U.S, but is there any reason for the delay? Shouldn't Nintendo be fair and launch everything everywhere at the same time?

Well, yeah. The TurboGrafx and it's games were never originally released there. And all TurboGrafx systems or games are natively NTSC. The few systems made to output PAL, used custom circuitry to convert it's NTSC processed image to PAL.

Lucky Aussie's! Hey? Is the Wii still an impulse buy?

It's good to get a couple more games into the VC, but I still don't see why Aussies can't get the games at the same time as the U.S. It's not like they have to be transferred from NTSC to PAL or anything.

finaleve.... Actually you can play TMNT both online or offline. So it's not like XBox Live is forcing you to play online. Once you download TMNT you can play offline with friends too. So your complaint doesn't make sense. The whole point about online play is to add more options. More options in VC games would be nice such as online play. And there is nothing wrong with adding another play option.

Ugh, im getting sick of people complaining about how the VC isn't a complete ripoff of XBL. The whole point of retro gaming was to play it like it was, not throw inject it with online play and make the game seem worse than it really is, because when I want to play TMNT arcade with some friends, I can't because I need to play it ONLINE when I don't want to connect ONLINE, thus making it very rediculous to play it.

The downside to the VC games is that they don't add anything new to them. Hopefully the new WiiWare channel will remedy this. Because I find it a bit disappointing that I cannot play Bomberman '93 online with my friends though it is still a fun game nonetheless. Hopefully the 360 Bomberman coming out will be good too since it will be online.

Nintendo needs to make these games online capable. This is why I prefer to download off Xbox Live for co-op and such and roms.....though only roms when I wanna play a game never released in the US....and that's been years.

All that time and NO BLAZING LAZERS?! I would not be impressed. Hang in there folks, pro-cott R-Type and maybe they'll get the message. :)

Its good that we got 11 turbografx games at once so we aren't to far behind the US. Its also great to see Ecco and Sonic 2 added to the Mega Drive list.
