Nintendo confirms Zelda 3DS XL for North America

Special gold-colored system coming to North America on November 22 featuring a downloadable version of A Link Between Worlds.

by

Nintendo today officially announced a new Zelda-themed 3DS XL for North America, after a leaked GameStop Black Friday advertisement first revealed the bundle earlier this month.

The special 3DS XL will be released on November 22 alongside The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It features gold and black coloring and the Triforce logo on its exterior.

The 3DS XL bundle will sell for $220, including the system and a digital copy of the game. 3DS XLs currently sell for $200, while The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will go for $40, meaning players will save $20 through the bundle. The special 3DS XL bundle will also be available in Europe.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is predominantly presented from a top-down perspective, with Link able to transform into a drawing and move across walls. This mechanic will play a major role in the game, Nintendo has said.

I was going to get this, until I realized it only comes with a digital code for the game. So instead of this, I just ordered the standard 3DS XL along with boxed copies of Pokemon Y and Zelda for the same price. Digital games are fine if they are attached to an account and you can download it in the future as many times as you want (if you have to get a new system, for example), but as I understand it the Nintendo e-shop is a one-time use only (locked to the system at least).

This looks like a very special offering... anytime a company makes something 'gold' it's going to be an item they are very proud of selling. Add in a 3D version of Zelda for 20 bucks and it's tough to resist, so I didn't. Sold.

Wow if I can get this the 22nd will be a great day, Xbox One and new 3DS!

Picking this up, hoping that Nintendo releases A Link to the Past on the Virtual Console since I've never played it and want to play it before playing A Link Between Worlds.

I like the yellow Pikachu edition 3DS XL better.

Definitely going to buy this. Haven't had a DS since the Lite version.

I'm not bummed about the digital copy. I WANT THAT GOLD XL!

Wish it would come with a physical copy of the game. Since it's a collector's edition and all...

Wow, I'm a bit shocked this is coming out already. I thought ALBW would be a few months off, yet.

Anyway, neat bundle, but I don't understand why people would want a 3DS emblazoned with the logo of one game.

The gold color is fitting, both for the game and how much money it's going to make. Consider them sold before getting out of the gate.

@adkcrazox This is the result of Wii U sell's domino effect. Otherwise, this should be physical version.

@adkcrazox

It's $20 cheaper if you think about it since the system itself is $200. That's a good trade off for me.

@McGregor I was just thinking that. Once I read that it's a download version it killed it for me.

Actually, now that I think about it, the download version of WWHD kinda killed off the Wii-U bundle for me, too. Ah well.

@Ovirew Zelda has been a Nintendo staple since the days of the NES.  These limited edition units sell like crazy because there are that many fans of the franchise.

@Ovirew the only response I can give to that is they're special and maybe you're a huge fan of one game.   I would have bought a 3DS for OOT SE, but at the time didn't have the money and though the 3ds didn't feel as nice as the DS lite.

@The_Gaming_Baby I envy you.... I'd do anything to experience every game in the series for the first time all over again....

Get A Link to the Past, if you can. That was the first Zelda game I completed and it's still awesome to this day. It would be something to tide you over til this releases.

@abHS4L88 @adkcrazox If you lose the console or it's somehow non-functional, you'll lose all of your purchased digital files. From what I read, that's what's happened to Nintendo's consumers.

@orthodox1976 Why? I love having the game I play most always on my drive with just a click away. Why in gods name would you want to keep removing your disc from the system? because the picture on the box? the 0.20 cent black box? wha? I dont get it? I can have pikmin in my system while still accessing zelda without removing anything. Just by simply clicking home and play zelda lol

@orthodox1976 I gave the digital version of WWHD to a friend who had previously bought a Wii U, and just bought myself a physical copy as i'm hyper paranoid about people taking away my digital goods, which Disney has recently proven it can do either on purpose or mistake is not for me to decide.

@Cozm1kaos I just like to have a physical copy. Switching out memory cards isn't that much work. LOL

I don't mind downloading smaller, "arcade" type games and storing them, but a flagship game like Zelda deserves to be on a physical medium.

Shiat, they should put it on a gold memory stick. :)
