Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

Nintendo unveils a new Zelda game in which four players, each with a GBA, compete for jewels.

Nintendo has today announced an all-new Zelda game for the GameCube. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be one of the first games released by Nintendo in which taking advantage of the GC-to-GBA connectivity feature will be compulsory. As one of up to four players in the game, you'll be competing to see which of you can collect the most jewels as you explore an area of Hyrule.

For the most part, you'll be viewing the action on your TV screen, and your movement will be restricted to staying within a certain range of your opponents, since there's no split-screen support. Walk into a building or a cave, though, and the action will switch to your GBA screen--allowing you to scavenge for jewels that your opponents can't see. There'll be times when everyone will need to work together, though, and the examples demonstrated at today's pre-E3 Nintendo press conference saw all four players pushing a giant boulder into a cave so they could progress to a new area and then the entire group being attacked by a large number of enemies.

No release date has been announced for The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords at this time, but we'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
