Publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Frogwares Studio have announced that they will bring a new Call of Cthulhu game to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Call of Cthulhu will be based on the old pen-and-paper role-playing game by the same name, which is in turn based on horror fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu short story.

"We are aiming to continue this tradition and to present our very own contribution to Lovecraftian heritage with a video game," Frogwares said on its website, where it also posted five pieces of concept art for the game.

Frogwares Studio is best known for their series of adventure games featuring Sherlock Holmes, like The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper, and the upcoming Crimes & Punishments. Last year they also launched a first-person puzzle game, Magrunner: Dark Pulse, which was also set in Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos (we thought it was pretty good).

The last memorable Call of Cthulhu game was Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, which was released on Xbox and PC in 2005 and 2006 respectively. It was well received by critics (including GameSpot), but was ultimately a commercial failure.
