It has been reported that a new movie in the X-Men franchise will go into pre-production very soon. A story in Le Journal de Montreal states that construction on sets for a movie in Fox's mutant superhero franchise will commence in January, with production starting in May.

The film will be shot at the MELS Studios complex, which is where this year's X-Men: Apocalypse was filmed. The news has been confirmed by MELS president Michel Trudel, who told the paper that filming would take "several months," and that "they will start shooting in May" (via Den of Geek.)

While it has not been confirmed which movie in the franchise this will be, it is most likely to be New Mutants. Although Fox are looking to reboot its main X-Men movies, no director or cast has been announced for a reboot. However, last month THR reported that New Mutants could start shooting in the spring.

New Mutants is to be directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars). While no cast has been officially announced yet, the young stars expected to appear include Anya-Taylor Joy (The Witch), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Nat Wolff, who starred in The Fault in our Stars.

It has been rumoured that the movie will be a departure from the more traditional superhero action of the other X-Men films, with a story in ComingSoon describing it as a teen horror movie. This ties into comments made earlier in the year by X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, who said that it would have "its own unique, original voice." Last month, an animatic of a potential action sequence from the movie was released, the authenticity of which was confirmed by Boone.

Fox has announced the release date for two movies featuring X-Men characters, but has not yet announced titles. New Mutants is expected to be one of these, alongside Deadpool 2.
