New Watch Dogs PC trailer shows off the open-world game at its best

These graphics certainly don't look downgraded.

by

Ubisoft and Nvidia have released a new Watch Dogs trailer designed to show off the high-end graphics that will be available to those with a fancy PC.

In the video, engineer Paul Vlasie talks about how Nvidia and Ubisoft Montreal have worked together to add the hardware maker's HBAO+ tech, designed to create more realistic shadows, and its fancy TXAA anti-aliasing effects.

"We really want to make sure PC gamers will be able to enjoy and explore the most realistic and visually stunning world environment ever created," Vlasie says.

Over the weekend, Ubisoft also confirmed the minimum and recommended PC specs for Watch Dogs. If you haven't seen them yet, well, there's a good chance you might have to consider an upgrade if you're looking to play with the graphics settings cranked up.

Ubisoft also reportedly said earlier this week that it was targeting a resolution of 1080p on the PlayStation 4, but made no reference of the goal for Xbox One.

How do you think the video stacks up with previous trailers for the game?

Hope my i4670k oc'd to 4.6hz and SLI GTX 680 can handle the ultra settings. But I agree that it still looks downgraded comparing to the E3 trailer

Still looks downgraded as much as a ps4 port with .hboplus and fugly txaa x2 or x4....

Give us a real next gen title and not a over marketed product what isnt is what was shown at 2012.

I never understood these stats. I'm (by a small margin) in the recommended specs bracket, yet even as such, I can say pretty much right now that if I want smooth, 60+FPS at all times, HBAO will need to be off, TXAA off, shadows off/low, motion blur off as well as a myriad of other post-processing effects.

Otherwise, what you get is 60FPS 5% of the time and 20-40FPS performance for the rest.  And no matter what you play, you usually do end up with hiccups in animation that help kill off the immersion and realism each and every time.

So everybody can shut up now. The version they showed the first time, was on PC and the "downgraded" version we saw was on the consoles. PC Master Race!

I have been a PC gamer for almost two decades and some of the comments from ignorant, sheepish PC fanboys give our whole community a bad name. Why do you guys attack console gamers ???? Why don't you STFU and enjoy whatever it is you are doing on your PCs ? Besides, I strongly feel the next gen systems are as good as PCs in terms of their ability to pull off extremely good graphics. That was proven in BF4, Thief and AC4 Blackflag. Watch Dogs won't be any different. In fact, looking at the technical trailer for the PC version of Watch Dogs, I can already see plenty of stuttering, and texture flickering. When will these so called developers learn to properly develop exclusive titles for the PC ? Oh boy, I can hardly wait for the launch day of this game. The Ubisoft forums for the PC version of Watch Dogs will be a jolly place to be. Some of the technical complaints from so called PC gamers regarding this game will be funny to read. Compare that to the much stable and calmer console forums of the same game. There in lies the difference. It's time we PC gamers accept our platform isn't the best or most stable. It's just an expensive past time with plenty of problems. Oh and let us stop with the age old excuse of 'cheaper' games please. Who cares when the f**king thing won't even run properly on a decent enough rig !

I think my mid range gpu should be sufficient to handle this game. But is it necessary that I should upgrade my six core amd fx 6300 to an i7?

it looks nice, but not Crysis-nice. hard to think that i couldn't max it with i5-4670K if i can max Crysis 3 with it...

VenkmanPHD

You know, Crysis was an amazingly beautiful PC game for it's time that practically required Nasa's super-computers run it.

But graphics aren't everything.

I still prefer Battletoads to anything new coming out.

Eh i don't give a rats ass if a game looks it's best or not as long as it's a good game ill be happy with it and for me the PS4 ver looks fine iv never been big on PC gaming

Can't wait to play this with my 670 SLI setup bought the second card last year for £125 on ebay bargain and i've got an old 460 setup as physx card so i'm hoping it should run pretty well anyway I don't think PC gaming is that expensive when you only need to upgrade once every couple of years.

Reading through the comments...good to see that ignorance still prevails and that the myth of a good gaming PC costing "$2000" is still the backbone of the anti-pc argument.

I want to see this same exact video of the Xbox One and PS4 version, I for some reason doubt it'll be THAT much of a difference. I'm just saying, I think it's the way the game was presented in the fashion it was in those videos that made it look better or worse.

...Intel i7 3770k, 16gig ram, EVGA GTX 580 3gb and roughly over 40gb of free space left.... Hmm, even with all this I'll bet that some how I still wont be able to run this game perfectly maxed out...sigh...

LightEffect

Game looks pretty good. Character models were alright in that trailer but was kinda expecting more. Videos never give best quality though so guess I'll find out when I get it. 7970 should be more than enough. Hopefully runs better than other Ubisoft titles (Assassins Creed)

I hope the game looks as good as I'm playing it on my PC. I mean, I've already pre-ordered this game ages ago based off of the cool concept and what looks to be promising game play. To have really sweet visuals would be a plus though.

@Armyboy5  they even said the game was running on pc at last E3. Guess you failed to troll consoles on this one.

@aegis_kleais 1600 dollar PC I built 3 months ago, Way past recommended specs, But running everything maxxed out on BF4 gives me framerate issues in single player..  PC Master Race my ass.

I Got it preordered for PS4, PSN is better online anyways in my opinion. I still don't know what to expect from this game online other than invading other players and hacking them, I hope there are more MP modes.

@matea88  Good for you. Only for the BEST graphic you will need 1000$ and PS4 with great graphic are only 400$. Do the math...

@giantming  Oh please, my R9 290 overlocked will run this game like a breeze, it is true that i won't get those marketing gimmicks, but I can live with that.

SkyAboveThePort

@starjay009  PC gamer here, too. But that doesn't mean exclusively, all the time. It's true many times there are problems on PC that you have to tackle. But, being technically inclined, I enjoy doing just that, on top of playing a game at the best my rig can deliver. Which is not bleeding edge, just good enough to outmanoeuvre PS4 & co. I wouldn't ever recommend a PC to someone who is easily put down by technical challenges. Nevertheless, you can't also deny that once you ironed out any problems, you'll always have the best gaming experience on a PC, even without a Titan Z. Want HBAO+ on FullHD? Done. Or rather sacrifice some fancy effects and 5 fps for a resolution beyond FullHD? No problem.. It's all up to you. Console versions will always be optimised for a particular platform, they will be rigid. It's like a PC that has the software fine-tuned for you by somebody else. In the end, that is tha choice you have to make. Hassle-free and rigid versus freedom that demands some time investment..

As for the price point, there are too many factors to consider to give a general statement. But in my case, and considering all hardware costs, I spend a lot less for a PC game compared to a console game, on the average.

jecomans
jecomans

@gamefreak215jd  Other devs have recommended i7's for their games, but they didn't actually need them to max out. Maybe Ubisoft has put alot of load on the CPU for running high-end effects in the open world? I wouldn't think it would be necessary to get an overkill CPU just in case this game actually uses it.

@elbauto Who gives a shit   I have a high end pc running two GeForce 680s and it cost me almost 2000 to make  It should look better  That being said I still use my 400 dollar Playstation 10 times the amount

@thebastardsword @aegis_kleais You probably built a shitty PC. Besides BF4 was terribly made. Still has many issues today.

For 1600$, if you can't run every game on Ultra, you didn't shop smart. Spend less money on transparent cases with neon fans or wtv the fuck you wasted your money. Don't blame the PC, blame your peasantry.

Vraach

@Gamer_4_Fun @Vraach
Yes it does. The first thing you can notice is a much less density of npc-s and cars on screen. Second it is the drawing distance and the AO effects surrounding only the close vicinity of the player with much less side effects as DoF. However, there is a great improvement over reflections. My guess is that they used various rendering software on the first E3 version hoping they can achieve that kind of visual in real time with the new generation of console cooming soon, but didn't manage to pull it off once they've come out.

@heguain @ffspydaTBH I'm not actually complaining, I should've pointed out that back then with AC3 release i did pass the recommended req. but i still couldn't play it maxed out( not that it made any difference though) just saying that those recommended figures they put out there mean what they are... that's all really

matea88
matea88

@PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN It means someone took 1000$ from you just for giving you that PC. I have better GPU than your, don't know what CPU you got, and it cost me around 700$

Yeah right. That's like saying "I have a VHS player and a Bluray player but I prefer to watch most of my movies on VHS".

heguain

@ffspyda @heguain Yeah, That was AC3; that worked bad for most people...AC4 was a better port for most people so I think they're gettin' better, PC is the leading platform for Watch_Dogs so hopefully it will be optimized well :)

Salokin3
Salokin3

@PHuNKPHeNoMeNoNYou can build a pc that's much better than the ps4 for $700. You can even build one that could beat it for $400-$500. Get your head out of the sand and out of Sony's ass.

PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN
PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN

@matea88 @PHuNKPHeNoMeNoNYou know what  Go on a site and build a PC for $700 that is better than the PS4  Good luck  And what GPU is better than that where you build the WHOLE pc for $700  Just cause a Geforce is higher in number doesnt mean its better  A Geforce 680 is better than a Geforce 760 for example

PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN
PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN

@matea88 @PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN @kalipekona  I built the PC so no one took anything from me

i7 Processor a year ago was around $250 if my memory serves me correctly

Two 4gig ram GeForce 680s were $560 a pop so $1120

Case $100

Two 8 Gig ram sticks were $130

850 watt Power Supply to support the two video cards running in SLI $140

Water Cooling System $100

SSD 240 Gig $230

Motherboard was another $140

Everything purchased on Newegg

My point is i spent all this money, love my pc, but still spend more time on my PS4.  Why?  Cause the best games are made for where the most people are.  Consoles   PCs should always be superior because they cost so freaking much.  You couldnt build a gaming rig half as good as the ps4 for $400 bucks  You wouldn't even get close

@PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN

If you were a TRUE pc gamer, you should know that many of us use our HDTV and sit on our chouches also.

the whole sitting on couch not being possible with a pc is not "original" anymore.

You are just lying, and probably opened a pc site and copy pasted those specs from someone,

PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN
PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN

@kalipekona Horrible comparison silly PC Fanboy  Cant watch that Bluray if the best shit comes out on VHS   Not to mention I prefer to sit on my couch over a computer chair any day.  And who wants to have a big clucky pc hooked up to their livingroom setup   It looks ghetto  Prime example is I am playing FFXIV on my PS4 instead of my PC even though my PC looks better
