In the fourth entry of our exclusive Designer Diary for Activision's Vigilante 8 (the company's PlayStation take on popular PC title, Interstate 76), producer Murali Tegulapalle focuses on the topics of vehicle control and special attacks.

"We've added some more time to the schedule because these are the most important parts of the game," he writes. "We want players to be able to pick up the controller and play the game as if they have played it all their lives - they should be able to pull cool maneuvers (jumps, etc.), quick stops, anything they want, very easily and quickly.

"In addition, regarding the artificial intelligence, the enemies should have unique behaviors (each car should have special attacks, cars can attack in groups, etc.) and shouldn't just fire aimlessly at the player."
