New Super Smash Bros. Has a Transformable Mushroom Kingdom Stage

"Mushroom Kingdom U" stage is based on the worlds of New Super Mario Bros. U.

by

The upcoming Super Smash Bros. game will have a stage based on Wii U game New Super Mario Bros. U called "Mushroom Kingdom U," game director Masahiro Sakurai announced today. In a post on Miiverse, Sakurai posted multiple images of the Wii U stage, along with fighters like Mario, Mega Man, Sonic, and Rosalina.

The Mushroom Kingdom U stage has at least two variations, the first of which you can see above. When Kamek casts a spell, however, the stage transforms dramatically into a different layout (at left). However, that's the limit of the transformation, Sakurai says. "This is not what you would call a moving stage," Sakurai said.

It's unclear how exactly Sakurai defines "moving stage," but it sounds like the Mushroom Kingdom U stage will be more static that Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii's auto-scrolling Mushroom Kingdom level.

This stage for Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be playable at E3 2014 next week and at Best Buy stores across the United States. There's no word on whether or not the Mushroom Kingdom U stage will also be playable in the 3DS version. The new Super Smash Bros. game comes to 3DS this summer, with the Wii U version to follow sometime this winter.

Nintendo recently announced that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is compatible with GameCube controllers thanks to a special adapter.

They should put Pokefloats stage in the game.

I applaud Nintendo for making great party games, while no other company does so. Sadly local multiplayer is dying for every other developer. Thank you for your games Nintendo, never change.

Man, people don't know crud about Nintendo.

They released a console with 0 advertising knowing that their games were going to sell the thing.

They expected more people to know they were going to want one and invest in it initially, that's their only hiccup,

as people are actually waiting for the games to come out before they get the console.

Mario Kart WiiU is KILLING in sales and moving consoles like no game on any system this generation.

You believe me yet?

Feels funny seeing Megaman there. The Wii U is the only next gen console I'd be interested in getting.

Wonder if Megaman will play similarly to the one in SSF2.

SSB and Zelda. The two game series that carry the only hope of saving the WiiU. Lets see what happens.

I read this story because I thought Nintendo had something new an innovative going on.  Nope.

Can't wait to get this on my 3DS XL and I'm getting the digital SSB. I just hope the GB is not massive as it was for Pokemon X/Y.

@scoobdog02 It's commendable, and I guess the other big companies don't make them much anymore, but there are indies.

@AuronAXE I initially wanted to buy and Xbox-One or PS4 but I noticed there was almost no games I wanted to play that wasn't going to be on PC. And then I looked at the "inferior" WiiU, and saw all those great games coming out soon, I decided to buy it last December. And I don't regret it at all.

I might get a next gen console later but for now, for me, the WiiU is the best console. Not power-wise, but game-wise. Games are there to have fun, not compare specs. :)

@aquoon_0nly  It also had an awful KO system which was the main reason why no one really cared for it.

@JoInfo

Nintendo games sell consoles. It's already BOOMING from Mario Kart sales. You'll see it in a HUGE lead over the other console by the end of the year and it'll never look back.

@JoInfo Zelda, the most overrated game series in the Nintendo library. The moment a new one is announced people will purchase wii u's in droves.

@spacecadet25 Do you want innovation? So stick with Nintendo's hardware or move away from console gaming, it is not for you.

@xantufrog I like local competition cause then if youre losing you can physically beat up your opponent.
