The video also spotlights the rigging system that developers used to simulate low-gravity. In fact, the team responsible for the rigging was the same group that worked on Alfonso Cuarón's space movie Gravity. Serkis' own Imaginarium Studios was also involved in the production of Squadron 42.
Serkis is one of the best-known and most-celebrated motion-capture performers in all of Hollywood. Some of his roles have included Gollum in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes movies. Most recently, he appeared in Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens as the CG character Supreme Leader Snoke.
This isn't his first video game, either, as he played Monkey in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and King Bohan in Heavenly Sword.
Squadron 42's lineup of acting talent is impressive. In addition to Serkis, actors such as Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, John Rhys-Davies, and Ben Mendelsohn also have parts.
In other news about Star Citizen, the game has now raised $110 million in crowdfunding.
