Eidos Interactive has released new screenshots from Eve of Extinction for the Sony PlayStation 2. Eve of Extinction is a single-player adventure game that takes place in a 3D environment. The game will feature a detailed combat system and a strong storyline. The player assumes the role of Josh Calloway, an employee of the multinational conglomerate Wisdom Inc., a pioneer in the genetics industry. Josh discovers that Wisdom's true purpose is to create a deadly weapon capable of mass destruction, called the Legacy, by fusing the essence of a human soul with a crystal. Upon learning of his employer's evil plans, Josh flees with his girlfriend Eliel Evergrand. However, they're quickly captured, and Eliel's soul is used to create the most powerful Legacy to date. Sworn to stop Wisdom at all costs, Josh embarks on an epic quest to save his girlfriend and stop a madman from destroying the world.

The gameplay focuses on the multifaceted Legacy weapon. The player will collect different power crystals by defeating boss enemies. These crystals can then be used to transform the Legacy into a variety of weapons, such as swords, whips, and axes, all with special attacks such as time stop, antigravity, and energy projectiles. The Legacy also plays a key role in the game's puzzle system, as the player will need it to bypass barriers, access unreachable areas, and evade enemies.

"Eidos is extremely pleased to be teaming up with Yuke's Co. to bring Eve of Extinction to the PlayStation 2," said John Davis, marketing director at Eidos. "With an innovative combat and weapons system, theatrical cinematics, and breathtaking graphics, EOE is poised to establish itself as a gaming force to be reckoned with."

"We will fuse all the next-generation technology we have at Yuke's into EOE to create an action game with an adrenaline rush unlike any other," stated Yoshio Togiya, executive director of development for Yuke's Co. "We promise players that the game will be so action-packed that they won't be able to take their hands off the controller."

The game is currently set for a release this winter.
