New Look at Tekken Tag Tournament

We get our hands on a near complete version of one of the most highly anticipated fighting titles ever.

Comments

We recently got a chance to check out a near complete arcade version of Tekken Tag Tournament and since we last reported on the game, a lot of little touches have been added.

One of the most impressive additions since the last version is the tag throw. When executed, Tag throws allow you to throw your opponent to the edge of the screen where your second character leaps in to add a hit. Some characters when partnered up with each other have special tag throws that they execute - one such throw occurs while are playing as Armor King and King… it looks like a wrestling styled lariat/clothesline throw. In addition to the special tag throws, some characters, when paired together, have special character intro animations. For example, Nina and Anna have a brief animation where they appear to be arguing or Yoshimitsu and Heihachi who take a short meditating before the match.

Namco has also changed the look of the game slightly by moving the camera closer to the characters to give them a bigger look. Some characters such as Armor King and Ganryu were given extra polygons to make them look bigger than other characters. Several moves and animations showed up in the game as well - Law shows off a new mid punch combo while Paul takes his battle downwards with a new low shin kick.

We battled our way to the end of the game and got a chance to take a look at the new boss. The new boss' name is listed on the screen as unknown - it is also unknown exactly what the character is. It appears to be a woman with an apparition that looks like a werewolf. We'll keep you up to date on new characters, as they are time released. Check our preview of Tekken Tag for more information soon, as well as Namco's Official Tekken Tag Tournament Site. We'll have a full list of new move descriptions soon in our Tekken Tag preview update.
