New Ghost Recon dubbed Predator?

Rumor Control: Australian Classification Board appends skulking suffix to latest multiplatform installment in Ubisoft's FPS military franchise.

Source: The Australian Classification Board, which rates game software Down Under in advance of its full release.

What we heard: Much has been made of Splinter Cell: Conviction's MIA status, but Ubisoft's Ghost Recon franchise has been off the reservation for what's quickly becoming just as long. With 2007's acclaimed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 being the most recent installment in the franchise, Ubisoft said in January that a new Ghost Recon would arrive by the end of March 2010. However, it didn't take long before the publisher pushed that game to its next fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2011.

Not all Ghosts are the friendly Casper types.

However, it now looks as if Ghost Recon's delay may not follow the long and winding road of its Tom Clancy cousin. Yesterday, a listing for "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Predator" on multiple platforms appeared in the Australian Classification Board's online database.

Ghost Recon Predator received an MA 15+ rating from the Australian board, the strictest rating allowable before classification is refused and the game is banned. Australian's software rating board has developed a reputation for being notoriously strict with its ratings guidelines, having denied classification to a number of high-profile titles upon initial submission, including Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 3, and F.E.A.R. 2. (Only films can reach the board's maximum R18+ rating.)

Beyond the subtitle, the Australian classification offers few clues as to the nature of Ubisoft's latest Ghost Recon effort. Thus far, the publisher has been mum on what gamers can expect from the new first-person shooter, saying only that it would not be a continuation of the Advanced Warfighter arc. The rating also did not specify which platforms Ghost Recon Predator would appear on.

Ubisoft had not responded to requests for comment on the Australian classification as of press time.

The official story: Ubisoft had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus, unless of course Ubisoft has a second new multiplatform Ghost Recon installment lurking somewhere in the shadows.

The longer UbiSoft waits to release another installment of their Ghost Recon the tougher its to play catch up to Cod MW2. The graphics and popularity of this game alone sets the standard for future game publishing studios.

Ghost Recon is going to have a hard time competing with Modern Warfare, but I've always liked the gameplay of the Ghost Recon series, and am not a huge fan of MW2, so I'll probably pick this up.

I would love a new recon set in the bush too, the first ghost recon is my favourite tom clancy game of all time besides the first splinter cell and rainbow six. I loved sneaking in the trees with my squad while Jack covered my ass from a cliff top picking off tango after tango and literally being a pack of ghosts come in quick then disapear into thin air.

It had better be set in the bush, enough of these 'urban' enviroments please. The first Ghost Recons were exactly that, a recon team named the ghosts, now they seem content to turn us into a street dwelling assault team with no recon at all. Give us back our bush/jungle/mountains with plenty of weather effects and JACK STONE to cover our asses from the nearest tree line. Bless you Jack.

The original GR on PC and its expansions were by far the best. Played both GRAWs and they were not at good gameplay wise. Maybe I'm just a little old school, but no shooter since has addicted me the way the original GR did.

Wow i dont understand how it can be rated so mature? its not like the last one was any worse than games like COD or GOW

SalarianChemist
SalarianChemist

This is even worse than when the Japanese version of Gears of War 2 needed to have the color of the blood changed from red to green. This type of "pickiness" is selfish stuff from people who usually tend to be hypocrites. This is the whole reason why we have a "Mature" rating.

I don't care what they call it, I will buy it no matter what

Ghost Recon Predator sounds like another GRAW not bad but I hope they'll add some of the classic GR stuff

Ah; so much nostalgia when thinking about the original Ghost Recon. My friend and I would play it for hours.

The Aussie's confuse me with their rating system. A game is either playable by people 15 and older...or it gets banned. Is there something wrong with the older age group that makes them incapable of logical thought after they turn 16?

Rainbow Six > Graw. The AI in all ghost recon games as so terrible I actually never finished the first GRAW. It's inexcusable for a company that also made Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six.

@cjasko94 I couldn't agree with you anymore man. Rainbow Six: Vegas was so much better than GRAW

hahaha would be awesome if it starts off like a realistic tactical shooter like operation flashpoint or the old ghost recon games , and suddenly midway through your teammates start getting killed off one by one by an unseen force...wait...is that a...Predator!!! Developers need to start being more creative and suprizing with games!

I don't care about any of these I want a new RAINBOW SIX GAME!

i played GRAW2 for longer than most other games. and as long as they keep in the 12+ player co-op missions, hopefully this game will ake up much of my time.

i always enjoyed advanced warfighter but recently i was able to buy and play the pc version and console really got screwd with the aiming , pc is loads better with iron sights but the enviroment looks all far cry brown on pc and horrible , on console it looks almost like a different better game. i still think the first ghost recon and rainbow games were better tactically than their later versions

Yeah, can't wait for this one, been playing the Ghost Recon since the first PC versions. Definitely changed this generation, but I think for the better. GRAW1 and GRAW2 had much more intense and engaging single player campaigns than the older PC versions. And to me GRAW1 and GRAW2 are still 2 of the best looking games this generation. As for going back to the older style, I like the way GRAW plays with the 3rd person perspective, I'd rather they not return to first person like in the older games. And unlike another Tom Clancy game (next paragraph) with GRAW people still tend to play more tactically rather than just running and gunning. At least that's been my experience. If any game needs to go back to its roots its the Rainbow Six series. Vegas 1/2 were fun games, but the multiplayer for me just didn't do it. I just could not get into the multiplayer in that game. I remember staying up late back in elementary school playing Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear with buddies on Microsoft Gaming Zone.lol I had AOL so sometimes I couldn't get in the games, but I was always entertained by even the lonewolf terrorist mode. The moderate pace of action was perfect, it wasn't a run and gun affair, but it wasn't all about camping either. (remember heartbeat pucks?lol). In the RS:Vegas1/2 it's just a run and gun affair, the whole element of using tactics gets completely thrown out online. People play it the way you play Call of Duty and it totally ruins the game.

Censorship is awful, and in Australia's case; it limits the creativity of an entire nation.

The only Ghost Recon games I liked was the very first one and the first advanced warfighter. Didn't really like the others.

How long do we have to wait, the only thing near to a Ghost Recon game at the mo is OP Flashpoint which is great in co-op but useless in every other mode, get your finger out Ubi-Soft the Adults need a new shooter!

It better still freaking have 4 player split-screen co-op.

i hope that im not reading into it wrong but if it's "ghost recon predator" and not "ghost recon advanced warfighter - predator" than this game might be more like the originals?? i hope this one will be more "OFP: Dragon rising" and less "Rainbow 6:Vegas" cuz we need more serious grown up tactical shooters out there.

i still proudly own and play both graw games. IMO the mp is sweet on graw2 and is the reason I continue to play the game. i just find it rather odd that both the R6 and GR series' are so successful even though they compete in exactly the same market demographic. And are the money tree of the same maniacal person, Tom Clancy.

hmm.... GRAW & GRAW2 were probably the two best games I've had on X360 since it's launch ( & Basically the First Game on X360 to be called NEXT-GEN ) - It looked next gen , played next-gen , it WAS next gen . Honestly , I'd like to see how the new GRAW looks like , it kinda blows that it got pushed to 2011 , but if whenever UBI releases it - count me in.

I only hope the new Ghost Recon game to be a realistic military simulator and a true tactical shooter, like the first game and its expansions unlike that arcade piece of crap called GRAW. Oh, I think now it's time to activate my shields, here come the bad ratings for my comment...

This better be good. GRAW was awesome. I've been playing games my whole life, and still GRAW is one of the very best games. Mainly due to the atmosphere.

i agree with Deluhathol i want those days before GRAW, more so like ghost recon 2 which was by far one of my favorite xbox games of all time. i still play it and GRAW just didnt suit me too well. start a new story line please.

The first two GRAWs were great, but much too short. Please make GRAW 3 longer, if only an hour more of brilliance.
