New Games of Thrones video game coming from Walking Dead developer Telltale

Telltale to tackle another episodic, adult adventure.

George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire franchise has had several game adaptions recently, including real-time strategy game Game of Thrones: Genesis, upcoming MMO RPG Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms, and social game Game of Thrones: Ascent. But the next installment might follow an adventure game format with Telltale as the developer.

Unconfirmed sources revealed to game site IGN that Telltale is working on a "Game of Thrones title," but there are currently no details on whether the game would follow the books, Game of Thrones television show, or a new direction entirely. However, given Telltale's pedigree of episodic adventure games, it would only make sense that their next project would be in the same format.

Telltale is currently working on Fables adaption The Wolf Among Us as well as the next season in the Walking Dead franchise, both of which have been critically and commercially well-received. And the company has also said that they'd be open to working with the Star Wars franchise.

Dan Connors, Telltale co-founder, said last month, "We have so many people here that love Star Wars and have worked with the license so that would be a great fit and very cool." However, in the meantime, he revealed that the company is "working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can't wait to announce those." We expect official word on Game of Thrones and Telltale's other dream IP soon.

No doubt this will turn out great. Guess the first(and maybe only) good Game of Thrones game will be an interactive movie. Which to me kind of sucks being a huge RPG fan and lord only knows how perfect the GOT world is for that. Now just make Breaking Bad next and complete the trifecta.

Can we skip the wiener stuff and just get to the dragons??

Like we need yet another game about floppy wieners.

They should not hire 8 years old toddlers who do the worst texture modelling i've seen since 1985.

I'd love seeing Rick Grimes kills Joffrey and the player has to decide whether to ignore it or prevent it

I'd love a Star Wars one.

Not trying to sound hipster, but I don't think TWD or Game of Thrones are interesting enough to watch (for my tastes), however I loved TWD game and I could see myself playing Game of Thrones. The only thing missing is having them making a Breaking Bad game. That way I could get to somewhat experience all these universes that I don't feel like following on tv.

Its not going to be action game or rpg but it still goint to rock

It would have to follow the books at least as much as the TV series does unless Martin writes the script. The Man Himself is on record saying that he doesn't want anyone writing new stories based upon his work, ever & regardless of the reason.

Telltale rocks, and I strongly agree with a suggestion down below... do Breaking Bad!

Okay, this is gonna be the first Telltale game that I'd be actually interested on.

Such awesome news. Will be great to erase the last attempt to piggy back off that series. Much hope for this game being as stellar as their Walking Dead game. That game pwned the living hell out of Survival Instincts, although I strangely did enjoy Survival Instincts. As a $5-10 dollar game, that would have avoided a whole lot of critical flak.

Something tells me this will be the best GoT game out there.

Can't wait to see it!

I've played Games of Thrones and I was not impressed. It's like a Dragon Ages : Origins "wanabe" without the passion and feelings of the Games of Thrones series. 3/10 IMO

The Walking Dead was decent but one of the more over rated games of the last few years.  I noticed quite a few graphical hiccups, the story is way more linear than it pretends to be, and the point and click adventure was not much for creativity.  The story was great though, only reason I finished the game.

This should be front page news. Right up the top. Telltale are the best thing to happen to the industry in a while!

That's actually pretty awesome. I can see Game of Thrones working a lot better in this format. Nothing wrong with RPGs, but when most deaths in GoT are actually important, it would feel a bit silly whaling on a bunch of no name enemies then collecting the phat loot.

I just wish they'd make a decent enough game of the series, none of the things that went out were ever at par with the quality of the franchise. I seriously wonder why no reputable game studio want to touch this product. It practically sells itself as an action rpg/action adventure, rts, management sim, mobile game, visual interactive novel. I mean where the hell is Bethesda? 2kgames? Ubisoft?

Whenever you're unsure about what game you wanna make for your story go to Telltale.

One thing I don't want to see is Telltale feeling they have to mold every IP they can into their signature adventure style. They're going to spread themselves too thin. Otherwise you'll have people saying: "Its our turn now! Turn the mickey mouse club into a game Telltale! No! I'm Spartacus!"

I'd rather they just concentrate on Walking Dead for now. They have a lot to live up to with that alone. I'd hope its better than the DLC that came out this year because that was terrible.

@rlakhani11 Yeah, but it's still going to take probably at least another season for it to come. But I can't wait for it to get here whenever that will be. I haven't read the books so pleas no one spoil it for me or anyone else.

@darkhisham Oh wow, you truly are missing out on some of the best television I have ever seen. If you are a fan of video games, which I assume you are, you will thank yourself for giving them a go. And you won't feel like you are watching the same show because all 3 are so different from eachother.

@PeterDuck

I'd love to see CDPR make a proper Game of Thrones RPG.  Only CDPR could do it, although I'm glad this next GoT video game will be in competent hands than the devs who made Genesis and GoT.

@biggest_loser I gotta admit though, they'd make a cool Spartacus game. Fuck Spartacus, they should have just called the show Crixus. No offense to Andy though, he was great, but damn that show dropped like a rock when more because of Crixus's woman being replaced by another actress than the replacement from Andy's replacement due to such tragic circumstance. Sorry, but that chick was hot as lava...OMFG!

@JPL1982 @HowlPendragon I don't think that's a good idea. The series isn't always about stuff like combat and such, it's very dialogue heavy and would not fit well for a game, and if they try to turn it into hack and slash or something like that then no, just no. If they make the series characters playable, then it'd just break everything, they can't really make an original story around these familiar characters without breaking canon, and if they try to adapt the books or tv show in the game it just wouldn't be interesting because they of course can't change anything about it without breaking canon. No matter who makes next GoT game, Telltale or whoever, they should create an original story set in the world but not use existing stuff at least too much, like with Walking Dead, that way they can have freedom to do all kinds of stuff and not be restricted to what happens in books and show
