"Our family will be challenged like never before."

The first trailer for Fast 8 will arrive this coming Sunday, December 11, Universal Pictures has announced. Ahead of that, the studio has put out a featurette in which the stars of the series talk about where the franchise has gone over the years, both thematically and geographically.

One of the biggest themes of the series has been "family," and it's this element that will get tested in Fast 8, apparently. At the end of the video, Michelle Rodriguez says, "Our family will be challenged like never before" in Fast 8. The movie also features adversaries who "show no mercy," according to the cast; this is presumably a reference to Charlize Theron's villainous character.

Overall, the movie will "[test] the bond" that keeps the family together in the "most ambitious, most entertaining, fastest, and most furious ride yet."

It's still unclear what the movie's plot is, so the trailer will probably provide the first look at what Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and crew are up to. In addition to Diesel, the movie sees the return of actors The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Lucas Black, Jason Statham, and Kurt Russell. Fast 8 also introduces Helen Mirren, who, alongside Theron, plays a villain.

Fast 8 hits theaters on April 14, 2017. The sequel is directed by F. Gary Gray, who also made Straight Outta Compton, Law Abiding Citizen, and the Mark Wahlberg-starring remake of The Italian Job.
