New Assassin's Creed game confirmed for Xbox One, PS4, and PC

Assassin's Creed: Unity launching this holiday; no mention of a Wii U version; set during the French Revolution.

A new video posted today on Ubisoft's French YouTube account reveals Assassin's Creed: Unity, the next game in the action series. According to the video, it is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. There's no mention of a Wii U version.

"Next-gen starts here," the video says. The game is set during the French Revolution.

After the video broke, Ubisoft officially confirmed Assassin's Creed: Unity, which the publisher says has been in development for more than three years. "Many more exciting details" about the game will be announced in the future.

Earlier this week, several in-development images of Assassin's Creed: Unity leaked, showing off the game's 18th century France setting. A separate Assassin's Creed game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is also reportedly in the works, but no mention was made of that today.

The phrase "Next Gen" is getting old.

Wasn't ACIV already next gen too? Why are they bragging about it starting now? Not that I'm really interested, ACIII was just so bad that I don't really care anymore... Maybe I'll try the newer AC games once I finally decide to get a "next gen" console, but this constant milking is making the series pretty irrelevant...

Hopefully this will make use of the new SnowDrop engine rather than the current AnvilNext

Well I am always looking forward to a new AC game - I have found something to enjoy in every single one of them! Really don't get all the hate about this series? Sure you may disagree with some elements of the individual game (managing cities, training AI assassins or whatever, I always loved those things though), but as a whole I always found the games to be worth the money!

Plz include a harder mode, plz, plz, plz, in previous ACs I felt more like a M1 Abrams than an assassin.

Assassin's Creed V: White Flag

The only problem with this series is that the anonymous creed that we know of the assassins is not so anonymous.  It just seems like they took the whole cover off the assassins and just said, "Hello everyone we are the assassins come and join." It's not even secretive anymore.  The mysterious aspect of the game that made it so thrilling and "Like what is going to happen next". Or what made you go online to research that time frame and the people that were involved to see what kind of truth if any was of the story.  Yes, I know it is all fictional, but the historical part of it all made it that much more exciting.  Now, it just seems like there are assassins everywhere and the whole creed and the group its self has lost all of its credibility.  I think one thing they could have continued with is the animus.  Use that to do different types of games and move away from the assassins in general.  Go a different time frame and a different world all together with a different group of people and with a different end game.  I mean at some point the whole Templar involvement has to end.  They can't possible be part of everything big historical event that has ever taken place in history.  Its just washed up.  Black Flag was good because it was not so involved with the creed, instead it was focused on piracy and it was fun.

'no mention of a WII U version' is pretty much the standard now.

I just hope they drop the silly memory corporation nonsense...just kills the momentum of the game.

I took a long hiatus from Assassin's Creed ever since it started sucking after 2.

I heard some good things about Black Flag- but it looked more like just a good game, not an Assassin's Creed game. The main gimmicks and draws had nothing to do with being an Assassin.

But with this, I think I might finally give it a shot. I've been wanting them to do the French Revolution since the beginning, as it's the perfect setting for the assassination gameplay.

Its also a shame the game is going to look nothing like that when it comes out.

Fool Me once with Watchdogs Ubisoft, shame on you

Fool Me twice with AC:unity, Shame on me.

Didn't Black Flag come out not too long ago?

*sigh* Kill this series off for a few years, work on something else, then bring it back when demand gets high for it.

A new AC game?  I can't believe this news.  This must be a lie.  Eddie you are a liar.

AC4 was Ubi's last chance to convince me these games weren't milked garbage anymore; they failed. Once the lead writer admitted there was no set end to the series and they intended to just make shit up as they went I gave up. The series started with a strong storyline when it launched, I was rather sucked in... only to be disappointed time and time again with cliffhangers to milk the series. I'll stick to games with true vision and passion. I'm not supporting this kind of game development anymore.

BetaVulgaris
BetaVulgaris

"Milked" - what does that even mean? They manage to introduce great new characters, settings and stories with each game. Really the only thing that feels "milked" may be the multiplayer part which to me has always only been an addition to the game.

It's not like there are many stealth/parkour game alternatives out there anyway, so please kids, go bother some FPS developer instead.

@skipper847

There's many problems with this franchise, but it's not Copy and Paste.

Each game is pretty different from the other- if not in terms of settings, then in terms of a large swath of new gameplay mechanics.

The problem is not that they keep using the same mechanics or the same settings, or whatever copied from other games- the problem is they constantly throw in a bunch of new gameplay mechanics that are useless, or don't work, and introduce new settings that just don't make sense or don't fit with the theme.

They add stuff like real-estate management, AI Assassins, minigames, and a bunch of other stuff. These aren't copy and pasted, so much as just thrown on sloppily from the top of the developers' heads.

@LtReviews true..you were more of a pirate than an assassin...but that wasn't a bad thing since being a pirate was done right. it was actually a very fun game.

a COD AC would be a first person with a mocap dog.

@BetaVulgaris

I won't comment on how much the series has been "milked"- I could care less the release schedule so long as its a quality product.

I won't comment on the gameplay, because that's a matter of taste.

But the characters and stories have been getting dumber and dumber... The ending of Assassin's Creed 2 can't be described in any other way than "wow, this is just really dumb"

notfrylock1987
notfrylock1987

@BetaVulgaris

Well...when you are pretty much releasing the same game, every single year, with no kind of vast improvment on gameplay or Graphics, you are pretty much just putting the game out stritcly to get money from suckers who, for some odd reason, just keep finding a reason to play this horrid series.

Assassins Creed stopped being fun after ACII. ACII was a masterpeice and they will never, ever make a game like that ever again.

They also could have made a whole new series about Pirates, giving themselves a new game to work on, while Assassins Creed could be put on the back burner to rest up for a few years to rebuild demand for it. But...instead they made a game about pirates and threw the Assassins Creed name on there.

So it's getting... the lemmings!, or wait, i mean the marrios!
Let me be carefull with this one but.... the WiiU is dead... over... finished.

BetaVulgaris
BetaVulgaris

@notfrylock1987 @BetaVulgaris Have you played AC:B? Both gameplay and graphics have improved a lot (on PC and PS3). You can't blame them for using the same overall mechanics, a sequel has to feel like a sequel after all.

I do understand that not everyone is digging the whole pirate thing. However, I never felt that the series was linked to a specific setting. So far, every character has introduced a new setting, so I don't see why the Golden Age of Piracy is less acceptable than the Italian Renaissance or the Third Crusade. A matter of taste I suppose.

But why are we even having this discussion? You're not a fan of the series so of course you have nothing good to say about any of the newest instalments.

I, for instance, don't like Final Fantasy, I never did. Therefore, I cannot say that they ruined the series, since I never really liked in the first place. Of all the releases you only seem to like one of them.

@notfrylock1987 @LtReviews

if the games were released 2 years apart with exactly the same content, graphics, etc you wouldn't know of the changes and you wouldn't have complained. but because you know it is an annual release you have a reason to.

@nazgoroth @josetoronja @corrus

They arent going anywhere for a long time sadly.

They have something Sony and Microsoft wished they had.

Pokemon and Smash Brother.

Nintendo is doing shitty, but when Pokemon X and Y came it, it boosted their 3DS sales dramatically.  When Smash Brothers comes out, they are going to sell more 3DS's and Wii U's then they did this year after Black Friday Sales.

Doesn't change the fact the WiiU is digging it's own grave though.

Perhaps nintendo should disappear from the console market. They've clearly made themselves obsolete.

@nazgoroth @corrus  are you guys idiots? I guess you don´t even read what this is about, that "Mario game" is not a real new game, is a port from the ds, is a DEMO to show to other developers how easy it is to port games to the Wii U.

If you didn´t read what i said either, here it is: Is NOT a new game.

nazgoroth

@corrus @nazgoroth

Nintendo hasn't learned from it's competition. When a series falls flat (say mario). Introducing a new ip usually helps. When is the last time nintendo introduced a new ip? I believe it was somewhere early 90's?
