My Chemical Romance woos Guitar Hero II, Stone Roses rock GHIII

Three more songs from The Black Parade added to Activision's downloadable setlist, while Stone Roses' "She Bangs the Drums" is confirmed for Legends of Rock.

by

When Activision first announced Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 last September, it promised exclusive downloadable songs. Four months after the game's April release, the publisher made good on that promise today with the release of a My Chemical Romance song pack on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The My Chemical Romance song pack includes three songs from the band's 2006 album The Black Parade: "Teenagers," "This Is How I Disappear," and "Famous Last Words." Another song from the same album--"Dead!"--was among the 10 songs added to the Guitar Hero II setlist when the game was ported to the Xbox 360 from the PlayStation 2.

This is the fifth downloadable song pack to arrive on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but the first to introduce new material to the franchise. The previous downloadable packs each contained a trio of tracks from the first Guitar Hero game, which was never released on the Xbox 360. These included songs like Queen's "Killer Queen," Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon," and Motorhead's "Ace of Spades."

Like previous track packs, the My Chemical Romance download sells for 500 Microsoft points ($6.25). A 46MB high-definition trailer showing the songs in action is also available for download.

[UPDATE]: Activision today also released a bit of news for the next Guitar Hero game as well. When it releases later this year, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will include on its setlist "She Bangs the Drums," "as made legendary by" The Stone Roses. The track was a single from the band's self-titled 1989 album, which has been named multiple times as the best British album of all time, including by a 2004 Observer Music Monthly poll, and last year by the writers of British weekly music magazine NME.

wow... and this is actually the first truly new song pack. all the other songs we've already played on GH 1. how many months has this game been out and we get 3 new songs....mcr songs. what a slap in the face. i guess i'll have to wait until spring 2008 when they release the buck cherry song pack or maybe the kid rock song pack. disgusting.

I understand the need to have some contemporary rock, but surely something less inane and pathetic than My Chemical Romance could be found. In a game like Rock Band, fair enough, but in GUITAR Hero, that's just insulting to the term...

It seems a lot of you are "disapointed" that MCR was released as the new songpack, but not EVERYONE who has guitar hero is ONLY a classic rock fan. Don't get me wrong, I love classic rock and love the selection they have, but getting to play some of the modern "mainstream" rock could be fun as well. All I'm saying is stop bi**** and moaning and realize that people who have this game are not ONLY classic rock fans but also fans of the mainstream culture, and they deserve to have content they enjoy as well. I mean come on...the ratio of classic rock to mainstream is like 10 to .5

well at least we're getting some new material.

Wow, spoken so wisely. I can't believe that they would sell out and put endless streams of power chords and whiny voices onto a supposedly epic game. I am, to say the least, disappointed with the selections made to be put into the game, but i guess it just shows whoever has the most money winds up getting their word out. It's jsut a shame to me that so many legends can just be glanced over, who wouldn't want to play taxman by Stevie Ray, I don't even care if they put some hardcore or outright metal music on it but as long as i can't feel my fingers after I'm done playing I don't care what it is. My point is it needs to feel like an accomplishment.

So, it seems alot of you like MCR.... Sorry guys, I just don't think they are "heroic" enough to get a Guitar Hero track thats all. I don't like their songs, style - its exeedingly generic and commercial. One Hendrix song would out-rock the entire MCR track collection. But thats just my opinion. I thought Guitar Hero games were about getting some of the best rock tunes and riffs, ever, and letting you play them. MCR may be a good band to some, but I wouldn't like to pretend that I am the guitarrist of MCR. I would rather virtually play along to Hendrix, Satriani (and a massive list of others), because the whole idea of Guitar Hero is to let the person feel like they are rocking out on the best riffs of all time. To me, this is just turning the series into a "play along" game, snapping up tunes from someones ipod or something. If its "new bands" that everyone is after - try out something like Muse, they have some good riffs and don't have that "emo" genre attached to them, nor do they try and live up to it like MCR do. If they continue to release tracks like they have so far - its just going to stereotype the guitar genre, which unfortunately the "EMO" generation has done thus far.

What the Hell, Harmonix/Red Octane? When you made GH2 for the 360, you promised 'more downloadable content than any other game'--and so far, all you've done is given us a few rehashed song-packs that altogether will end up costing players more than the original GH2 + controller for the PS2. And now you're throwing My Chemical Romance in our faces? What the Hell is that?

Seriously, either Rock Band or Guitar Hero 3 need a British music expansion pack. Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, Supergrass, The Libertines, The Jam... I'd pay $60 for that.

Maybe they should change the name to "Guitar Emo" instead :P Since when was there a hero of guitar in MCR? I thought that Guitar Hero games were about celebrating good guitar riifs and tunes, and in turn, make you feel like a hero whilst playing them. I see nothing heroic about MCR, stone roses - yes... Maybe they should have a black fringe of hair, tight jeans and nailpolish accessories to go with this pack.. lol

backinthekrak

It's obviously impossible for them to pick songs that everyone likes & they can't make everyone happy, but it seems that they could do better than this...

yeah dude stone roses = awesome, but eff my chemical romance, i wanna see an encore: rocks the 80's song pack, or even better, the entire disc released for 360. i was disappointed when i saw new content for GH2 and it was stupid MCR

right on. stone roses. one good band on all of the guitar heros. albeit they only released one good album. i think guitar hero might be on to something. they might have a game ill play in about 14 years, as i am very picky about my music.

Yeah secretinblack thats exactly what i was thinking but that song sounds like it would be extremely hard to play.

I'm getting the MCR just for "Teenagers", because it is a funny song, and dead, because it has some rifs to it. I'm not very selective in my music I just listen to what ever seems interesting to me at the time. There isn't really a Genre I don't listen too. It would have to be borring and display totally no passion for me not to listen too it. Lately the only misic I don't I don't appreicaite it southern Rap. I just don't feel any passion from it, or focus point. I think MCR is a good group there are plenty of other groups I might want to see on there as well.

I think $4 would be reasonable,or 2 more songs for the price they listed.I mean, each song is really $1 or less, and the fact that each one is made compatible with Guitar Hero II,1-2 bucks should be added to the price making around $4 a reasonable price.

mcr are alright but not good enough for me to get it on GH 3. they are not bad live though. I would rather some foo fighters and RHCP and some of the new LP songs to go on there. and maybe a bit of muse.

OK, i think u all need to take a step back and realize this is a gaming website, lets not turn it into a 'lets bash the emos' forum thread, theres enough of those on the web as it is. As for the pack, i can see why its been done, rock band announce that there gonna have DC for whole albums and the GH lovin community jump through hoops with excitement, so red octane and co are jumping on the bandwagon a bit.... its all about money. secondly, there are prob a lot of fans of emo music out there who love GH2 too, but there is a distinct lack of emo music in the game, mainly due to it not having much of a history, therefore not much to choose from. I think its a cleaver move, ill prob buy it cos i don't mind MCR really, my GF will love me forever for it and on top of everything, i thought dead! was a fun song to play, which is the most important thing. peace out

Oh, nice! I love MCR, although Teenagers is my least favourite song of theirs. Thank You For The Venom would be awesome.

My Chemical Romance are a disgrace to name a band like The Smiths as an influence. Not too mention Panic at the disco who basicly piss on the corpse of The Smiths by taking their name from one of their songs. And hell yes the Stone Roses are an amazing band.

mcr is one of the worst bands in music today, and i don't see why anyone would pay for these tracks. even if all three 3 songs were good, they are still too expensive, and the songs being awful instead make it even worse.
