ABC Interactive calls it the "Quest for the Best Internet Championships." It is a contest to support the launch of that company's Monday Night Football '98 and College Football: Heroes of the Gridiron computer games. Players will compete in head-to-head competition over the Internet using the MPlayer system.

Finalists in the Monday Night Football competition will find themselves on the way to San Diego, just in time for the Super Bowl and a chance at a $10,000 grand prize.

Players who own a copy of the game can register at either the ABC Interactive or MPlayer web sites. Qualification rounds begin Oct. 14 and last for eight weeks. Four high scorers will be chosen per week to advance to the single-elimination play-offs. And winners there advance to the $10,000 competition, to be held during pre-Super Bowl festivities.

ABC Interactive is set to release ABC Sports College Football: Heroes of the Gridiron in early November, which will be followed by a similar competition culminating in a $10,000 match at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
