Mortal Kombat 1 Copies Leak Early, Spoilers And Final Characters Are Out There

Getting spoiled before the game launches would be a real brutality.

Mortal Kombat 1 is a week away, with early access for those who preordered the deluxe editions beginning September 14. However, it seems some physical copies have made their way into the wild already, so take this post as fair warning: There are spoilers abound.

A Reddit post titled "Mortal Kombat 1 switch fps [sic]" appeared on the official Mortal Kombat subreddit on the evening of September 5, which showed the opening cutscene from the game's campaign on a handheld Switch console. The same user who posted the video also posted screenshots of the character select screen, as well as the Kameo Fighter select screen, on a separate subreddit (beware of spoilers!) dedicated to MK leaks.

Now Playing: Mortal Kombat 1 Story Mode Opening Cinematic

While the opening cutscene of the campaign isn't new--multiple outlets got to go hands-on with the campaign late last month--the playable character select screens does have two faces who have yet to be officially revealed. One of them has surfaced a few times if you've paid close attention, while the other is a name we've not officially heard in any capacity yet.

Mortal Kombat 1 is a full reboot of the franchise's timeline, as the end of Mortal Kombat 11 saw Liu Kang ascend to godhood and take control of time itself. Multiple characters from past games return, but in this new timeline they serve new masters and play new roles in the story.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches September 19 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Early access for those who preordered the deluxe editions begins five days earlier on September 14.
