Monster Hunter Portable 3rd gets top honors at PlayStation Awards

Capcom's monster-killing game for PSP and PS3 nabs Sony Japan's highest awards; Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 also top winners in User's Choice category.

As the year of 2011 reaches to a close, Sony Entertainment Japan held the annual PlayStation Awards on December 6 to honor developers for their hard work and high sales. According to the official website (via ), the awards covered games released between November 1, 2010, and October 31, 2011.

The top winner as the game with the best sales number was Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. The game's development staff at Capcom received 4 million yen ($51,425).

The rest of the winners who were awarded the gold prize included Final Fantasy Type-0, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, Gran Turismo 5, Dynasty Warriors 7, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Version, and Tales of Xillia. Each of those game's development teams received 500,000 yen ($6,428).

Sony also held polls on its awards website for three categories this year. In the User's Choice Award category, the 10 games with the most votes were Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, Eiyuu Densetsu: Ao no Kiseki, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Gran Turismo 5, Catherine, Dynasty Warriors 7, Atelier Meruru, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Tales of Xillia, and Dark Souls.

For the PlayStation Store Special Award category, the top five PlayStation Network-sold games were Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy, Crazy Taxi, Elemental Monster Online Card Game, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Dreamy Theater 2nd, and Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition. Sony also created a World Game Award category, which honored games developed outside of Japan. The top three games to win the award were Call of Duty: Black Ops, Little Big Planet 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
