MLG Anaheim with $135,000 in prizes for SC2, Call of Duty, and Smash Bros

Major League Gaming has announced details regarding their MLG Anaheim Championship event taking place June 20-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center, featuring StarCraft 2, Smash Bros Melee, and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

StarCraft 2 will be a WCS-sanctioned event with 4,000 Global Event points going towards the WCS Global Rankings, with $40,000 in prizes up for competitors both starting in Championship Pool Play and a 192-player open bracket. 12 Qualifier winners will start in Championship Pool Play with 4 players added from the open bracket to form a 20-player Championship Bracket. Double elimination format, best of three games all the way through.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will feature $70,000 in prize money over a 10-team international playoff with 8 teams coming from Season 2 of the MLG Call of Duty League, and 2 teams coming Season 1 of the Gfinity Call of Duty League. The 12-team league, including all 10 Season 1 teams, will include 44 matches per team from April 19th to June 14th. The playoffs will feature the top 8 teams from MLG's league, and the two top teams from Gfinity.

For the first time at MLG, there will be $10,000 available in an amateur-only 192-team bracket for Call of Duty. Four of these teams will come from the bottom four placings of MLG Season 2, with the top four teams advancing on to Season 3. Both tournaments will be double elimination, best of three games.

Super Smash Bros. Melee has $15,000 up for grabs with a massive 1024 player open bracket scheduled for the event. 12 players will qualify through MLG qualifiers to start in Championship Pool Play. They will be joined by 8 players from the open bracket to form a 20 player Championship Bracket. Double elimination bracket, with best of three games for the open bracket, and best of 5 games for Championship Pool Play and the Championship Bracket.

MLG says they more games are expected to be added. Breakdowns for the prize purses in each game will be released at a later date.

Yesterday MLG cancelled their Anaheim Dota 2 plans after recent news that Valve's The International 2014 will be held in mid-July, also on the west coast of the US.

"It is with great disappointment that we announce Dota 2 will no longer be featured at the MLG Championship in Anaheim this June", said MLG's Executive Vice President, Adam Apicella "No one is more disappointed than I am. Over the last eight months, we have been dedicated to helping grow the Dota 2 scene in North America and beyond. I personally have strived to have a very open dialogue with the players, teams, fans and leagues in the Dota community in order to deliver compelling competition and broadcasts."

"As you know, Dota 2 activity in the US and around the globe has skyrocketed over the last few months with multiple events recently announced for this summer. While we are extremely happy to see the continued growth in popularity, the vast number of tournaments greatly impacts our ability to hold a successful Dota 2 tournament at the upcoming MLG Championship in Anaheim. Holding tournaments so close together, especially before the biggest Dota 2 event of the year – Valve’s own International, puts tremendous stress on players and affects their overall performance."

In January, MLG revealed they would be returning to StarCraft 2 in Anaheim after being removed from the end of the 2013 circuit.
