Miyamoto puts an official end to the Year of Luigi
The world will be less green when we wake up on March 19.
All good things must come to an end. The Year of Luigi will officially end on March 18, gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto has announced.
"Almost a year has passed since I announced the Year of Luigi, marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi’s debut," said Miyamoto on Nintendo's Miiverse. "Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!"
What happens on March 19? "From this date on," Miyamoto explains, "the Year of Luigi Community and its Developers' Room will sadly no longer accept new posts or comments."
"As a means of bringing closure to the Year of Luigi, I would like to ask you to leave a comment for Luigi in this post," Miyamoto concluded. You know what to do.
During the Year of Luigi, Nintendo released a slew of Luigi-themed titles. First came the New Super Luigi U DLC, which was followed by Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and Dr. Luigi.
The Year of Luigi started on February 14 last year, meaning the Year of Luigi will have officially lasted 392 days--a solid 32 days more than a year in the Gregorian calendar.
