Mojang announced that Minecraft has sold over 1 million copies on the PlayStation 3 since it was released in December 2013.

"That has to be some kind of record on PSN, no?" Mojang's Daniel Kaplan said in his post on the company's official website.

As we reported earlier this month, the PS3 version of Minecraft was the system's best-selling downloadable game during its December launch month, outpacing juggernauts like Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Ghosts, according to the PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of Minecraft are also in development, but release dates for these iterations have not been announced yet.

According to the NPD report, Minecraft for the Xbox 360 was the ninth best selling game of 2013, adding to the more than 13 million copies it sold on PC and 10 million copies it sold of its mobile Pocket Edition.
