Minecraft: Pocket Edition Gets Biggest Update Yet July 10

Minecraft: Pocket Edition adds infinite worlds, new biomes, and more in version 0.9.0.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition, the mobile version of the game available through the iTunes App Store and Google Play, will get its biggest update to date on Thursday, July 10.

Version 0.9.0 will bring the mobile version closer to its PC counterpart by adding infinite worlds, caves, many new blocks and items including Monster Eggs and huge mushroom blocks, wolf pets, new mobs, new biomes including mesas, jungles, swamps and extreme hills, and much more. You can find a detailed list of the new addition on Mojang’s website.

In late April, we learned that Minecraft PC sold 15 million, but the mobile version is significantly more popular. Earlier in April, Jens Bergensten of the Mojang’s mobile team revealed that Pocket Edition sold over 21 million copies.

On Xbox 360, Minecraft sold more than 12 million copies and on PlayStation 3 it sold a million copies in just a little over a month after its release. Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions of the game are coming in August.

Mojang's Patrick Geuder Saga, who heads up data analysis at Mojang, recently revealed that the company sold almost 54 million copies of Minecraft across all platforms, but did not share details regarding how the 54 million figure breaks down between platforms.

ok hold on a minute....... so minecraft on smart devices can have infinite worlds, but cant have infinite worlds on PS4/XboxOne?

it would be cool if they could have multiplayer servers were you can just join instead of adding people to play with them

ABOUT FRICKIN TIME they added infinite worlds and caves.  Been waiting for that since the game was released on mobile devices 2 or 3 years ago now!

Does this game ever go on sale for PC?

so you're telling me that mobile edition of minecraft gets more things closer to the PC version, while the console versions are far behind on the content and to add the consoles are like 10x more powerful than a mobile phone

@dannydopamine8 It's the most inspiring game of the 21st century. If not one of the most inspiring in the history of video games. It captures and encourages people's imagination and creativity in the most constructive and fascinating ways. Every kid is playing it and years from now every game developer will have been inspired by Minecraft in some way.

@bluebird08 That's obviously because Xone and PS4 are underpowered and a smartphone is much more powerful than them.

@bluebird08 I recon that they will bring updates on on PS$/Xbone to have bigger worlds. they have been working on mobile devices for years (only now getting it to that point), give it time and they will find a way.

@RainIsMyDrug Because on the consoles they had to create an engine for the game and they don't just use Java. The engine they made doesn't support infinite worlds.

@RainIsMyDrug Will PS4 have infinite worlds?

For Xbox One, didn't they say they are limiting world size to the same as the 360 in order to allow players from both systems to play together?

@n0xinab0x Its really not that much $ considering all the support it gets from updates/mods.
To everyone calling him a moron thats out of order. Its a fair question but as it sells so well i doubt it will go on sale

@thecman25 It has to do with game saves. the mobile version is basically run on their servers while the console has to be run locally for offline play. Save files would be massive if they allowed infinite worlds. Not even the new console versions get infinite worlds, however they were said to be about 36 times larger than the worlds you get on the 360/ps3 version.

@Spartan_418 @dannydopamine8 Yeah if you think differently than me you are wrong because i am perfect

arrowhead927

@XBlade1X @RainIsMyDrug Its to limit the file size because u could potentially end up with a 200gb save if u were to explore to the end of the infinite world

bouff

@hystavito @RainIsMyDrug no, both PS4 and Xbone will have 36x bigger world. with a one time transfer from old gen to next gen.

XBlade1X
XBlade1X

@WingChopMasta @thecman25 No, it's not. Phones support Java. Consoles don't.

Mobile version can still be played offline fine just like PC and Consoles.

@arrowhead927 @XBlade1X @RainIsMyDrug

"200gb save"

"the end of the infinite world"

1. It would probably take you 14+ days of walking to make your save 200GB.

2. 'Infinite' - "Boundless, endless, without end or limits; innumerable."

XBlade1X
XBlade1X

@arrowhead927 @XBlade1X @RainIsMyDrug So if that is the case, explain to me why mobiles (which definitely don't hold as much data as a console can) get the infinite world treatment? They wouldn't just limit save file sizes like that, I guarantee you, if there is ever a Java made for next gen consoles, the games will get ported straight over to that and we will get infinite worlds on console.

@n0xinab0x @Saidrex Dude, if you can't afford $20 then you should not be playing games. Gaming is a leisurely activity not a right.

Saidrex
Saidrex

@n0xinab0x @Saidrex price dropped a little, but it was never on sale and i doubt it will be, it sells very well at full price

KotomineKirei

@XBlade1X @arrowhead927 @RainIsMyDrug

The programming language shouldn't affect the ability to generate infinitely.

Perhaps there is something in Java to do it more easily, but infinite world generation should be possible in C++ and probably all other programming languages.

Fantasy_Dragon

@WingChopMasta The game is actually around $27 on PC, but perhaps you weren't paying attention. And since you weren't paying attention, you also didn't notice that at no point were the words "I can't afford it" ever uttered. Perhaps the person just doesn't feel like the near $30 is worth it, but they still want to play, so they would rather get it on a sale price. Meaning they still want to PAY for it, just not at full price. Not because they don't have the money for it, but because they want to get their own worth out of it. It's a crazy concept, I know. No need to be a dick about it.

@arrowhead927 @KotomineKirei @WingChopMasta @thecman25

Yeah, but they don't increase too much.

I explored a large area and it only went up 6MB.

I think that a way to solve the problem would be to allow console users to adjust the maximum file size of their worlds.

e.g. if you had enough space you could limit the world to 500MB and have an extremely massive world.

@sunyatanada76 you should be upset, you are a loser who spends his free time tro**ing in comments.
