Microsoft reveals Season Pass Guarantee program

As part of new program, players who purchase DLC pass on Xbox 360 can download it on Xbox One at no extra cost.

Microsoft today announced the Season Pass Guarantee program, which will allow those who purchase a downloadable content pass for select Xbox 360 games to download the Xbox One equivalent at no extra cost.

Major publishers like Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft have signed on for the program, Microsoft said. Confirmed titles for the program thus far are Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4.

"Season Pass Guarantee makes transitioning from Xbox 360 to Xbox One an easier and smoother process, so you don’t have to worry about which console you're playing games on or repurchasing your existing add-ons on Xbox One," Microsoft said.

Additional publishers and titles participating in the Season Pass program will be announced in the coming months, Microsoft said.

Sony has not announced a similar plan for the PlayStation 4.

This article fails to mention the obvious to some fact that you need to own the game twice to gain any benefit from this. Seems like you just end up paying more then.

It does not fails on anything !!

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know you need 2 games one for the 360 and one for the xbox1 since both console use different format -_-

@deadpeasant Well that's up to publishers. They will not give you a free PC BF4 copy if you buy the 360 one for example so yeah they'll not give you a Xone copy either for free.

@deadpeasant not a big deal, right now gamestop will let u upgrade to the new xbox one game for $9.  Not a bad deal if that person wants to get in and play COD Ghost ect. before the release of xbone.  Problem SOLVED........

Why is it so hard for everyone reading this to see that this is in your (the consumers) favor? If you are not interested in playing a game on the 360 or ps3 and want to wait for the next gen version then do so. But stop complaining about something that doesnt even apply to you, just because you dont comprehend the concept.

@evoloner They can't help it.  The lack the capacity to comprehend.

Microsoft i appreciate these attempts at gaining some of the millions of customers you have lost, you would be advised to sack those behind your foolish decisions.

So, I buy game for xbox 360 because I can't get my hands on an X1 yet, and I REALLY want to play said game (Assassins Creed IV and Watch Dogs for example.) So now, when I CAN get my hands on an. X1, I re-buy said game for new console (for obvious reasons.) Because of this, and we're in the transition between consoles, Microsoft says "you already bought the DLC? Thanks, it caries over to your X1 copy too." Please, any of you Sony asshats explain to me HOW THIS IS A BAD THING??? I'm here all day.

@Mike Shipley

"Listen, you supported our old console, even when it was going the way of the dodo. And you've just plunked down $500 on a new console, and $30 on a Season Pass for the OLD console. We'll give you one game of your choice for that new console free, and let your Season Pass carry over."

Had MS said that, I would immediately jump BACK to MS' side. Instead, they want me to pay $600, to play one game, across two consoles. And this assumes my old console doesn't RROD before the NEW ONE comes out.

This is great news so if i don't want to wait for the still unconfirmed release date i can pick up bf4 ghosts and most probably black flag get the pass then trade the game up at gamestop trade up for $10 and carry my season pass over awesome.

"Hey, if you buy our game twice on two different consoles (handily doubling our profits), then buy all our overpriced DLC in one lump, we'll throw you the worlds smallest fricking bone ever by allowing you to access the DLC on both consoles, isn't that nice of us?"

This seems like the umpteenth XB1 piece giving one small glimmer of hope, are they hoping if they give us enough small bonuses, we'll forget all the other crap they originally came out with?

you're the umpteenth drone in this thread who magically found a way to bash this

evoloner

@DJ_KooPee yeah by the way Sony jumped on this too, hmmmm maybe you should read the whole thing and look into the trade in program that gamestop is offering to the people that want to play the game on current gen until the next gen get here. An extra 10 bucks to play the next gen version really upsets you? Get a job that pays enough to afford 10 bucks and stop bashing things with out the right knowledge and info. Enjoy that negative out look as long as you can, one day you will crush under the pressure and ask mom and dad for the money for an xbox ONE!!!

@evoloner@Acekidder

Wow, guys, taking this a little too seriously aren't we? I know sarcasm's hard to detect on the internet, but sheesh!

Oh and to clear a few things up

Not a fanboy, currently own everything apart from Wii U and 3DS, and I've already pre-ordered both XB1 and PS4 (and, evoloner, buying both of those is a small purchase for me as stupidly highly paid, and mom & dad stopped buying me things when I moved out 10 years ago!).

So now all your pre-conpetions have been blown out of the water, can we just agree that Microsoft has some massive negative press recently, and now their drip feeding the (semi-)good stuff?

(OK, I'll admit my OP was worded a little strongly, but this is the internet afterall)

@evoloner @DJ_KooPee  Thats the other problem here.  Whiny kids and deadbeat losers who can't get/hold a job that will enable them to have access to these games/systems.  That is frankly no ones fault but their own.  And for those of you who are too young to have a job that pays well enough or lets you work enough hours to make enough, quit bitching.  Plenty of people have been there.

I feel everyone complaining about the Xbox is just a very loud minority. It is not a fact that the Xbox one sucks. I was very impressed by its reveal, and I was very excited about what it would do for hardcore games, but it seems people have killed the dream Microsoft dreamed. I feel it's PS4 fanboys who were never going to get the console, complaining to Microsoft and ruining it for everyone else. Like everyone hating on the Kinect. It is literally the most advanced piece of technology in the motion capture and voice recognition software. The way that can change games!!! Being able to play shooters or strategy games and order your troops through voice commands. My friend says the old Kinect gets his commands right like 90% even when mumbling. And the new one is supposed to be way better. The Kinect is a lot better than PS4's stupid wii clone. That eye toy is horrible, and doesn't even come with the console so the PS4 isn't even cheaper. It's the same price for a shittier experience. The Xbox one will be a lot stronger too. Sure they have similar specs, but everyone ignores what Microsoft said about cloud processing. That they are going to have so many dedicated servers for your live membership, that they will actually be used for more processing, allowing for even better graphics, and much larger multiplayer games with hundreds of people. You won't be seeing any of that on the PS4, and as far as everything I think that's he biggest game changer, but no one even talks about it.

Buy a season pass for 360? well if you PAY AGAIN for the same game you can download the DLC you were already entitled to, not of course the DLC acquired outside of a season pass. But it is something.

Why not let me keep the games and DLC already on my gold account instead?

@YamakoichiDid you read the article at all? Microsoft today announced the Season Pass Guarantee program, which will allow those who purchase a downloadable content pass for select Xbox 360 games to download the Xbox One equivalent at no extra cost. (equivalent= season pass)

this doesnt seem to be worthy news it should be this way anyway.... if i buy a season pass for a game i should be able to use it on the next gen. but then again i would buy the same copy of a game just to play it on next gen...

I've been pretty vocal about MS this coming gen, but man when you do something right, you get props.

warhawk-geeby

This is in no way targeted at Microsoft, as to be honest the whole 'carrying your stats' article announced yesterday is highly relevant too.

Are people seriously that desperate to buy a game on the current consoles to then just buy it again for next gen?  Why not wait..?  Or even better, why not buy two different games?!

We've got GTAV coming out later this year, a game far big enough to last until you buy the next gen consoles.  Save yourself the extra money and just buy one copy of the game?  The 'promotion' may sound cool, but it's just designed to get even more money from the sorry customers.

I'll hold on to my hard earned cash thanks!
