Microsoft calling for user-generated XBL TV show
New York Television Festival and Microsoft hold contest to find first original series for video download service.
User-created content is all the rage these days, with "Web 2.0" being the popular buzz phrase spouted by many tech execs. Microsoft is hoping to go one step further with TV 2.0, as it has announced a contest looking for original programming to be available on its Xbox Live Video Marketplace.
With the help of the New York Television Festival, Microsoft is launching the Xbox Live Originals competition. The contest is asking wannabe Aaron Spellings to create a short pilot for consideration to be picked up as the first original programming available on the company's video download service.
A 5- to 15-minute pilot in any genre should be submitted before June 29, 2007. The winner will be granted a $100,000 budget for a six-episode series and a screening at the 2007 New York Television Festival. For more information, read the official rules at the NYTF Web site.
