Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Multiplayer Footage Leaked Online [UPDATE]

Snaaake! Snake?!

UPDATE: And, not unexpectedly, the video has been taken down. We'll be on the lookout for any more footage, but Konami will likely release an HQ version of the footage soon.

The original story appears below.

A video has surfaced online showing the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain multiplayer footage that was presented at Gamescom to media. Uploaded on YouTube by channel Everyeye.it, the video shows footage from single-player missions followed by a look at multiplayer gameplay, which starts at the 17-minute mark.

The multiplayer segment shows Snake entering another player's base, and culminates with him being confronted by a character who looks identical to Snake. GameSpot was present at Gamescom to check out Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and you can get a detailed breakdown of the footage shown in our preview.

All i want is the old mgo back with tsne, tdm and all the skills like ar3, cqc, running, pistols, ect. Also would like the tournaments to come back and the customizable characters with even more outfits that you have to buy with points you get from games. If they bring all of this back to the new metal gear solid this will be the best game hands down IMO.

Watch Snake or Snake Dogs? Either way it's bullish if there is no option to turn this crap off.

Multiplayer for Metal Gear Solid? Just no. Metal Gear Solid has and always will be a single player game.

Looks...alright, but I'm only interested in the single player.

If i am spending hours collecting resources, artillery and stuff i don't want another player invading my session and stealing it all. Especially since the AI was terrible in the demo. None of the traps got triggered, all the security was weak.

It is too early to judge but this seems like a problem, why would i collect anything from missions when i can easily go steal it from other players, especially on release when no one knows how to build their base up.

Fake. If that was being shown at a press-only event, there would be money getting thrown through the air and everyone laughing at dumb consumers for thinking the journalists are actually independent from publishers.

It's neat, and the gameplay looks great, but I honestly don't like that someone else can come in and steal my stuff, so I hope that's something we can turn off...

Demon souls was the first to come with that concept, Watch Dogs followed and now MGS5. Credits to Demon Soul's though.

@Dannystaples14 Your comment fails on so many levels... MGS has had multiplayer since 2005 (MGS3, Peace Walker & MGS4) and every one of them was fun as f*ck and didn't affect the single player campaign

@Dannystaples14

Clearly you missed out on a pretty big portion of MGS3 & 4.

@Dannystaples14 I guess you're forgetting about Metal Gear Online..... the big multiplayer online thing, that was terrible.

@G4mBi7 It's almost as if it was scripted for the sake of doing the demo!

@NTM23 Probably as simple as not logging into the server when you start.

@L30N4KU Actually, MGS used the concept before WatchDogs; it was already like this in Peace Walker, which is 2010 (I think). Demons Souls did come first, though.

@pezzott1 I'm sure you can. The game won't require online to play, so there's no reason that they wouldn't have an option to disable online features (since disconnecting your console from the internet would do that anyway).

@gutsallover @pezzott1 One very big plus this has is that there is the possibility of having infinite infiltration missions, each different depending on the player that built the base. So I still don't know if it's worth it or not.

@pezzott1  Which will basically make this game impossible to put down. Plus they are still going to have TDM plus all the other little modes like team sneak and things like that. When we boot this game up you better have atleast 5 hours to spend, then just the basic replyability of on section in the campaign. Trying to fulton everything you can.

MGSV is going to go down as THE BEST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE!!! Trust I bet when this game drops the reviewers are going to say those exact words.

@money4385 @pezzott1 Don't count on a review like that :).  I think it will be a good game, but as we've seen AAA games can be reviewed pretty harshly these days, especially if they aren't art heavy and have lots of typical gameplay like shooting and such. It might get knocked down for political correctness issues too.  :)

I'm sorta kidding, but sorta not :).
