3dfx Interactive has announced that Dr. Alex Leupp has been appointed as the company's CEO and president, a post that, until recently, was held by Greg Ballard. Leupp brings 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry to the company. He has also served on 3dfx's board of directors since Oct. 1998.

Recently, Leupp served as president and CEO of Chip Express Corporation. Prior to that, he held a six-year position as president and CEO of Siemens Microelectronics.

"Dr. Leupp has been a valuable resource in guiding 3dfx over the past year, as a director on the company's board," said Gordon Campbell, chairman of the board of directors for 3dfx Interactive Inc. "The board feels his technology expertise, leadership abilities, and strong understanding of the semiconductor industry will be a great asset in growing 3dfx into its next stage of development."
