May's Best-Selling PSN Games Announced -- Was Watch Dogs on Top?

Sony lists the top sellers on the PlayStation Store for each of its platforms' games.

Sony has posted its monthly lists of the best-selling games on the PlayStation Network during May 2014 for each of its platforms. Despite releasing just a few days before the end of the month, Watch Dogs topped the list on the PlayStation 4, but on the PlayStation 3, Ubisoft's open-world game was bested by not one, but two games.

On the PS4 front, Watch Dogs was followed by the new game from Bastion developer Supergiant Games, Transistor, and MLB 14: The Show, both of which debuted during May. Watch Dogs sold more than 4 million units across all platforms in one week, so a strong showing here was to be expected.

On PS3, Minecraft was yet again the best-selling PSN game, a feat it has managed every month since it was launched last December. It's followed by Red Dead Redemption--no doubt thanks in large part to being part of a $5 flash sale at the beginning of the month--and Watch Dogs.

Whereas the two console lists consist of the 20 best-selling games, the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable lists are both limited to the top 10 games. The Vita's best seller was Muramasa Rebirth (which was discounted by 75% to $7.50 for part of the month), while Borderlands 2--the technically inferior version of 2K Games best-selling game ever--fell to number three, behind Soul Sacrifice Delta. On PSP, the top three games were all Persona titles, with Persona 3 Portable leading the way. All three were 75% off ($5 each) for a stretch during May.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs!  On PS4!!  What an Awesome game!!!  THANKS UBISOFT!!!!  Just polish it up for the next release, Ubisoft.  Put a top-of-the-line driving mechanics in it, perfect the aiming abilities of all weapons, maybe add some more weapons, and make the objective/tasks longer/add more, oh, and increase the online/multiplayer aspect....and you will blow away Grand Theft Auto!  Keep up the great work!  I love your game!!

Lol, PS3 addons is all CoD except for TWD and TLoU. All the complaints in the world about CoD and DLC doesn't seem to change the fact that it sells like fish food to cods.

Are these just digital games sold or digital & disc?

Does anyone know if the Watch Dogs Season Pass covers the $5 Cyborg Digital Trip?

Mortal kombat PS3 still going strong.. good to see..

I really wish when they release these figures that they would have two sets for each category, one for normal full-priced sales, and one for promotional sales (those at heavy discounts).

Way too often you see these lists cluttered with flash sale games, which makes it hard to determine what was actually popular that month, aside from pure deep discount impulse buys.

Why does Minecraft keep consistently selling so well over time?  Something is fishy. Get ready for a "Minecraft-Gate" scandal.

And it was millions of sales ago when the developer said they are embarrassed they have sold so many copies and made so much money.  Right.  That's why the price is still sky-high, and was the first $20 arcade game in Xbox history.

Yeahhh watch dogs baby GOTY 2014 all the way.

according to vgc (don't take it too seriously tho) ps4 edition of watch dog sold about 1.8million  (1million in us alone) copies in it's first week and moved 200k ps4. damn that is one successful new IP, can't wait for destiny's numbers !

That sounds about right, I download Watch Dogs Gold Edition and Transistor in that order and both of these games are a blast but Watch Dogs has got me hook up the most of my times.

(I still need to finish up Transistor)

Your news category undermined your pathetic click bait headline.  It was categorized as Minecraft.

I don´t understand what kind of people play "minecraft"... Kids?

@spacecadet25 I agree - not that the flash sale discounts aren't typically great games (a particularly awesome list right now), but it isn't diagnostic of the current "hottest item" on the system

Kids love it. When I was a kid, I used to love playing with Lego's as did countless other children. Minecraft is sort of like the virtual version of lego's and at $20 it's way cheaper than Lego sets.

@chris120379 lol; that game better not even be nominated.

@Thanatos2k Well, Minecraft is the #1 PS3 game so why the hell wouldn't it have that tag?

Half the Xbox articles are under Playstation 4.

@othermind Can't speak for the console versions but with the right community Minecraft can be really fun.

Unfortunately the Minecraft multiplayer community generally makes the CoD community looks mature and well adjusted to society by comparison, so the chances of you finding anyone fun to play Minecraft with (unless they're actual friends of yours) is tremendously slim.

@othermind it's a fun game. It's a sandbox diversion - it's not "hardcore" and it's not story driven. But it's about as good a sandbox game as exists. It's basically Legos in video game form: here are a bunch of blocks, build whatever you want. But of course if you never liked playing with Legos then, yeah, I guess Minecraft probably sucks

@Sevenizz The half that include information about the PS4...just like the PS4 articles with Xbox information.

@The-Neon-Seal @othermind  Please define "most people," and also define "awesome"?
The way they're used in context here has me confused.

@spacecadet25 Most people as in age groups you dumb ape...the damn thing was made popular by the 25-35 age group and now its all over the world in all age groups. Hell, there is a 50+ year old youtuber that posts vids of his creations...
