Lumines Live! Audio Interview

We talk to Q Entertainment's Tetsuya Mizuguchi about the recently released Xbox 360 version of his addictive puzzle game.

Released via Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade this morning, Lumines Live! is an Xbox 360-exclusive update to what was arguably the PlayStation Portable's strongest launch game, Lumines. In addition to a big chunk of content lifted from the popular PSP puzzler, the Xbox 360 game boasts plenty of all-new content, including a mission mode, licensed music, surround sound, customizable skins, and new multiplayer features. Lumines Live! also supports downloadable content, the first of which is an "Advance Pack" priced at 600 Microsoft Points that should be available to download shortly.

In this telephone interview with Q Entertainment's Tetsuya Mizuguchi, we talk not only about the Lumines Live! content that's available to download and play right now, but also about some of the features that might find their way into the game in the future. Mizuguchi's previous game credits include Space Channel 5, Rez, Meteos, and Ninety-Nine Nights. Expect a full review of Lumines Live! on GameSpot soon.

rofl, to the comment about only five rez games being made, i've held more than five copies of it in my hand before, unpacking about 12 used copies at EB games, and there's still one on the shelves, so you just gotta look, but it was an amazing game, XD too bad they didn't include the japanese vibrating box connection, i couldn't stop laughing when i first heard about it. and i bought lumines live today, it's not that overpriced, considering the first lumines was what? thirty bucks? and that was a portable game, this one's less than twenty but everyone's flipping out, maybe it's because it's the first game of this price to be on the live arcade, but think about it, it's also the first origional big name game to be released, i mean, as far as i know most of the games out are just remakes, no real or new exciting content, just high definition outdated graphics, that all said, i'd recommend this game to anyone who like the title on the psp though using the xbox 360 d-pad is combersum as always...

All I see is the ranking/submit bar, the media player shows up for a split second while loading the page and disappears. I tried in both IE and Opera. What's going on?

Mizuguchi really has no clue! First the incredible Rez, which only 5 copies were made in the whole world, cause that game is impossible to find. The DW that never was, but tried oh so hard to be with N3. and now overpriced lumines on live arcade!>>> I wonder how much that game is going for on ebay.... I have one of the 5 copies made of that game apparently.

Sonys stupidity must be contageous!! Its the walmart effect, like when you walk into walmart and most people become stupid morons with no commonsense or idea respect or coertesy. same effect with working with sony!

Just charge me the full amount and give me a full game, damn it. Don't nickle and dime me about it. Other than that, the price isn't too far off -- definitely worth more than Banksh*t Billiards... would've rathered see it come with more skins though. I'd hold off on the calls for a boycott of any kind and I think the people raising a huge fuss about the price ought to just go out and get a job... or ask Mom for a raise in the ole allowance department.

The first thing that I played after buying Lumines Live was cpu vs. mode. It's pretty fun, but after passing the first level, a paragraph flashed quickly across the screen(too fast for me to read) and I was back at the starting menu. Passing cpu mode again, I read that I need to purchase the cpu pack to continue playing. Only there is no cpu pack available! It doesn't matter how good this game is. It is extremely irritating to buy a game that you can't play.

Well you guys are complaining that you have to pay for a game that still costs $30+ for the full game for the PSP, you have to remember this isn't just a arcade game its a full game thats been released to another system already, just this way you aren't buying it from the store you just buying it online. Im not buying it just for the sheer fact that i own it on the PSP and if i wanna play it ill play it there. And for my review i think its a great puzzle game, ive spent like 2-3 hours at a time playing it.

The game itself is excellent but the price of admission is way too high for what you get.

this is a good game. one of the strongest puzzle games in the arcade library. after a little getting use to, this game starts smokin. the cool high tech lookin effects in the background, and ever changing puzzle pieces keep it fresh throughout, and keep you playin tryin to get to the next skin. all the modes are a good time, and offer a lot of variety for a puzzler. nothing is perfect though: the online is a little laggy....but fun, and for a whopping 1200 pts, you should be able to play the whole game, i was upset to see a lot of the areas restricted after i purchaced it. all in all though, quite a fun and addicting game that has me waiting to drop even more cash when the other packs come out. 8.5

Why the hell wasn't this released in Japan? First we get screwed over by not getting Street Fighter and now this. Anytime anything worth getting is released it seems they make a point of excluding Japan from it. Wouldn't Street Fighter potentially do better in Japan than in the U.S. and same goes for Lumines as well. Thanks to microsoft not informing us that these would not be released in Japan I have once again gone out and wasted my money buying 2000 Microsoft points for nothing. Sort it out Microsoft!

After 1200 point you cna't even play the WHOLE game! Versus CPU is restricted to 1 level. Advanced mode can be unlocked by buying more Micr. Pnts and the multiplayer lags like hell. I am very disappointed! AND I didnt see 1 videoclip in the background that looks like a real clip! I think it's VERY misleading!

Anyone else think the number of "microtransactions" on this one is a little excessive? Maybe, wallet-raping?

Cool, i dl'ed the game (had to) and the music can be distracting, however it's till simple and fun and DEINITELY worth the 1,200 for me.

It's still 1200 points, plus more charges for expansions. With all due respect, it is a good product but not good enough to charge $15.
