Lord of the Rings and Hobbit 30-Disc Bundle Confirmed, Costs $720

The rumors are true: the massive 30-disc Lord of the Rings Collector's Edition, which includes every Hobbit and Lord of the Rings film, is real. But it'll cost you a lot of money. We're talking $720.

You read that right. The upcoming Middle-earth Limited Collector's Edition costs six times the price of seeing every movie on opening day in IMAX 3D (assuming $20 a ticket).

Of course, the collection comes with a lot of extra content. All six extended-edition movies come in faux-leather book bindings and are stored in a wood shelf, and it also includes every piece of bonus footage and content already released. On top of that, it comes with a sketchbook and reproductions of watercolor paintings. All told, the collection includes over 70 hours of additional content.

It's worth noting that while the Hobbit trilogy bonus content is on Blu-ray discs, the Lord of the Rings bonus footage is included on DVDs. All the films are on Blu-ray.

It's quite the collection, but its price is very steep. If you're not interested in the special bindings, box, or watercolors, it's likely more financially savvy to buy the extended editions of the trilogies separately.

Of course, if you really want the definitive collection of the Lord of the Rings films, this is your best bet. After all, the packaging does look really good...
