Lich King, Fallout 3 score MI6 awards
World of Warcraft expansion takes home top honors for Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign; Bethesda's postnuclear RPG wins in nine categories.
With the recently completed award season honoring the best games of 2008 finally in the rear-view mirror, there was time this week for the industry's marketing segment to dole out its own awards for the best game promotions of the year.
At the MI6 Game Marketing Conference, The Daily Show alum Rob Corddry hosted an awards ceremony that saw more than 61 winners named in categories ranging from Best Limited Edition or Collector's Edition Packaging (Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning) to Most Clickable Web Site for a Product - Casual Gaming (Ben10 Alien Force Game Creator).
Taking home perhaps the night's biggest honor was World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the launch for which earned Blizzard the Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign award. Electronic Arts also earned praise, with "Maddenpalooza" designated the Most Effective PR Campaign of the year. Fallout 3 was no slouch either, winning nine awards, including Best Online Advertising Campaign and a runner-up honor in the Outstanding Overall Marketing Campaign category.
