Knights in the Nightmare, Crescent Pale Mist land on PSN
PlayStation Store Update: Light week highlighted by Atlus' PSP role-playing game, Rockin' Android's action/platformer; demos for Apache: Air Assault, CSI: Fatal Conspiracy also arrive.
Last week Sony's flagship God of War series had a double presence on the PlayStation Network, with the God of War Collection and God of War: Ghost of Sparta arriving in the virtual marketplace. This week is lighter on heavyweights and more tuned to games made by Japanese developers.
Leading the charge is Knights in the Nightmare ($29.99). The PSP version of last year's critically acclaimed DS strategy role-playing game of the same name is now available to download in the marketplace. As previously reported, for a "limited time," those who purchase the title will earn themselves a free digital copy of Yggdra Union.
Yggdra Union and Knights in the Nightmare are connected in that the former title's Princess Yggdra has been added to the PSP edition of the latter game as a playable character. The new Knights in the Nightmare also includes redone controls (the DS edition relied heavily on the system's touch screen), tweaked visuals and audio, and a new opening cinematic.
One new PlayStation 3 game arrived on the PSN this week: Crescent Pale Mist ($5.99). From independent Japanese development house ClassiC Shikoukairo, the game is an action platformer. The title casts players as Yunou, a magician--the only magician--capable of controlling the strange magic known as the pale mist. Players will use this ability to make their way through six chapters filled with "assassins, hard-hitting sorcerers, and supernatural monstrosities."
Another PSP title now available in the storefront is Monster Jam: Path of Destruction ($19.99). From Activision, the licensed truck title sports 30 Monster Jam vehicles like the world famous Grave Digger. The title also lets players take part in stadium racing and freestyle competitions, as well as bonus modes such as circuit race, time crunch, gate rush, and team race.
Two demos arrived this week on the PSN, the first of which is for Activision's upcoming helicopter action game Apache: Air Assault. The other sampler now available is for the latest crime sleuthing title in the CSI series, Fatal Conspiracy.
Two Minis landed on the virtual marketplace this week. They are Fort Commander II: Counterattack ($4.49), and 3, 2, 1…Supercrash! ($2.99). The former is a tower defense title, and the latter tasks players with riding a monocycle and avoiding numerous objects in a player's way.
The music gamer has a plethora of options this week. Def Jam Rapstar welcomed nine new songs from artists like LL Cool J, Kanye West, and The Black Eyed Peas. Rock Band 3 added a smattering of Bon Jovi songs, as well as singles from New Order and Talking Heads. Finally, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock added songs from Alice Cooper, Rush, Tesla, Poison, and Slash to its store this week.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
