Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning dev recommends install on Xbox 360

"For the love of God, please install," advises fantasy game's lead designer, saying it solves problem of lengthy load times.

Installing Xbox 360 games to the system's hard drive to shorten load times is a standard option, but in the case of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the designer might prefer it to be an ultimatum.

Expeditious gamers should install Reckoning, says its developer.

Speaking with OXM, Big Huge Games' Ian Frazier said, "If you have a hard drive, for the love of God, please install."

"You will have much, much smaller load screens," he added. "Please, please, for the love of all that's holy, install."

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be the first game released from 38 Studios, a shop founded by former Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling. It is set to launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 7 in North America. The fantasy-themed role-playing game will feature a number of genre staples, from skeleton warriors and cave trolls to swords and sorcery.

It'll run better on the PC...provided you patch it 100 times, plus update the crapload of drivers to increase compatibility AND upgrade to the newest GTX 6574843² SLI to run at 120 FPS in a 4k + resolution. All that to brag about how mom and dad got you an expensive rig that absolutely no one cares about.

Not to stick my toe too far into the piranha-infested waters of system wars, but surely this goes double for the Ps3 version, given the slower access times of Blu-Ray? I suppose it could be that the 360 version is using some major compression to fit on one DVD. Not that I'm too worried, given that with the choice of all 3 I'm going for the PC version with the 360 pad. Just hope the ATI card glitch is fixed in the full version. (Hint, if you get black screen in the demo, turn off post-processing)

lol i love how whenever I check on news for consoles ect there are always PC elitists banging on their chests about how pcs are better in everyway "bla bla bla" - Of course they generally are, but no-one cares lol. People enjoy their consoles regardless, and are not going to go out to PC World and buy a gaming rig just because you are ranting and raving. Game looks good overall, and have left xbox to download demo while im out. I am actually in the process of upgrading my PC..going to replace 1 or 2 parts a month - over the next couple of months if anyone has any tips lol.

Ugh, don't get the 360 version if you have a gaming pc - the comparison between the graphics - well there is no comparison :p

I wish I could install most of my games this way. I know you can delete them after you finish playing them, but certain games take a long time to install, especially Rage, so I'd rather leave them on the hard drive. I only have 34gb left out of my 120gb. That space gets taken up fast!! The only thing I have up there is Arcade downloads, DLC, Themes, and gamerpics. This game will be a must-buy for me, so I will be installing it upon purchase anyways. I planned on purchasing the 250gb hard drive for my 08 model 360, but then I thought about it, and figured I might as well get a newer slim xbox, maybe that bad @ss Star Wars limited edition one! Just can't tell the wife!! lol

Gotta love how casual the designer is about all this. "Please, please, for the love of all that's holy, install." It's like he's gonna cry if you don't, lol

there is alot coverage for this game, and quite a bit of people seem to want it. BUT i see the videos of the game and there is nothing there for me to even look like fun. Don't get me wrong i like rpg games

Wow, GameSpot is seriously grasping for straws here. I install games on my XBox 360 anyway and I upgraded my hard drive for the 2012 releases.

I didn't like the graphics, I didn't like the story, I didn't like the fighting, but overall I liked this game. Strangely, but after lots of Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Skyrim and Dark Souls, when I played Kingdoms I got the feeling I played a good old style RPG. Everything felt familiar, and it was good and comforting. However, I still haven't decided whether I buy it or not. I got what I needed - bonus content for ME3.

Lackluster gameplay, story, and level design coupled with cartoonish graphics. The demo pretty much convinced me that this game is Skyrim's retarded red headed step child.

Install it on your Xbox HDD to increase load speed. Install it on your PC to increase load speed, graphics, resolution and framerate.

Haha, those were his actual words? "Please, please, for the love of all that's holy, install." He's begging you to install because they couldn't make it decent enough to work fine otherwise.

It is not like people cannot read the game manual. Oh I forgot newer games sometimes don't come with a manual anymore.. Sorry

I install all games by default as it makes the console so much quieter. Here's hoping that the next gen will have a harddrive built in as standard, and no cost cutting budget version like the Core / Arcade of this gen that holds everything else back to be compatible.

Installing games to 360 is pretty much mandatory these days, if for no other reason than to stop the console making those infernal noises when running games off the disc.

Screw the load times. Do it because the 360, even the new ones, are pieces of crap and this saves you a lot of wear and tear.

I install and uninstall games a lot because I only have 60 gigs. If I had a 320gb I would do it to all of my games. Also, I Battlefield BC2 if you installed to your HDD you could get into a match 15 seconds before every one else :P

The demo was absolutely fantastic. I was VERY reluctant when it first started... It was way too "Fable-like", but as soon as the game opens up to the main world -- with skill unlocks that actually make more things in the environment interactive -- I was fully sold. The only way to describe it is one continuous Fable-looking world with Elder Scrolls-style depth and Darksiders-style combat. It's more than the sum of its parts. Oh, and looking at the time it took to walk around the demo region compared to the entire world map, this game is almost as large as Skyrim. :) WIN. [edit/add] Now, BigHuge -- get to work on a RoN refresh. ;)

@blackace There's something wrong with your console if any of the load screens on the demo lasted anywhere near 40 seconds.

Played the Demo.Main character dont speak! Cam view too close(it may be patched and if, then only maybe after the release...means also maybe not)! Skill tree too simple! Combat was at begin fun but the game lacks of variety of weapons(graphical differences and in numbers).NPC's are boring and the voiceactors lame. The opening story very uninspiring. The fantasy graphical setting has no individual touch and felt exchangeable. The creation of your avatar is too limited.Very dissapointing coz i wait for so long for a decend Action-RPG with loot.

I install all my games anyway, so I'll be doing the same for this game, if I decide to buy it..... Will be waiting on reviews first. I'm just glad I've got the 250 GB HD. To those with an Arcade or 20 GB 360: it's really about time you upgraded. I'm just surprised your console hasn't red-ringed, or the DVD-drive hasn't busted !!!!

Well, I installed the demo, which seemed like the full game as it was 1.9GB in size. Even installed, there was still some lengthy load times (10sec - 40sec long). Every time you entered a building or new area, it had to load. The demo was very good. I was surprised. Pretty length up until you reached the main city. Control was nice during the action portion. When I got hit by monsters and enemies, it was my fault for not blocking or dodging quick enough. I never felt out of control. The animation and graphics were decent. Not mind blowing, but good enough for that type of game. Yes, you get free gear in advance. When you get the full version of the game, you can keep the gear you found in the demo. I have a 250GB HD and I still have about 130GB available, so I think I'm good. I also tried EA Smash Tennis game, which was actually fun. Not worth $60, but I'll get a copy of it on Ebay for under $35 later in the year. Still have to try the FF XIII 2 demo though.

Too bad I have an 8 GB hard drive. This might be a PC purchase now. Anyone know if you must be connected to the internet to play this?

Reckoning is the game I wanted Dragon Age to be. RPG skill systems, fun combat, and an intriguing story set in a colorful setting I want to spend time exploring. This one has the deck stacked. As for the article... duh! I always keep at least 4 or 5 games installed on the HDD. Whichever games I'm likely to be playing for a while get installed. The HDD is plenty big enough and the instal times are bearable. It'd be foolish to NOT instal your games at this point.

I don't like to install a game due to the amount of space it can take up, and how long it takes to install. If hard drives for the 360 were a lot bigger, then maybe I would consider it.

Hot damn I can't wait till the end of the month! the depth and variety of the development and characters and weapons is awesomely & easily engaging the look is great and the feel of the world huge I actually stopped playing MW3 for a whole week and a half running all thru the demo and each class DEFINITELY definitely it is gonna need an online mode for running around with a group and that's my only gripe. Great Idea Great Action Great Looks I'm Already paid off waitin' for pickup
