Kinect Sports, Force Unleashed II, Forza 3 add-ons hit XBL
Xbox Live Update: Downloadable content now available for motion-control, Star Wars, and racing titles; Prototype, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ravage Games on Demand hub.
Microsoft's Games for the Holidays promotion debuts next week, but that doesn’t mean Xbox Live isn't getting updated with new content this week.
First out of the gate today is free add-on content for Kinect Sports, one of Kinect's 17 launch titles. The Party Pack content packs in six new minigames, 15 fresh party play events, and three zany mascots: Zippy Zombie, Champion Chicken, and Sportastico. Additionally, the Party Pack includes 10 achievements for 250 Gamerscore points to rack up.
Also out today on Xbox Live is the Endor downloadable content (80 MS points, or $1) for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. The content thrusts players back into the boots of the Dark Apprentice, where they will follow Darth Vader's orders and bring the hurt to the Rebels on Endor.
Forza fans today can download the Forza 3 Community Choice Classics DLC (400 MS points, or $5). The content is unique in that Turn 10 partnered with automotive blog Jalopnik.com to poll fans of the game about what cars they wanted to see included in the DLC. The 10-car pack includes classic cars that range from the 1957 Ferrari 250 California to the 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II. The pack also includes a 1982 DeLorean DMC-12, better known as the 88mph time machine made famous in the 1985 classic Back to the Future.
A full list of vehicles that will be included in the Community Choice Classics Car Pack can be found here.
At the 2010 Video Game Awards on Saturday, Activision officially cracked open the lid on Prototype 2. But for those who missed the original or wish to play it again, the game is now available through Xbox Live's Games on Demand hub for $30.
Prototype casts players as a genetically altered shape-shifter tearing a path of destruction through New York City. Along the way, gamers try to discover who they are and what's behind their mutations, all while fighting off an assortment of military and mutant adversaries.
Also available through Games on Demand today is GameSpot's Game of the Year nominee, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ($40). A direct sequel to the 2008 console exclusive, Bad Company 2 picks back up with the derelict B Company, a fictitious unit of the expendable misfits and outcasts plucked from the US military's ranks. Destructible environments are front and center in Bad Company 2, thanks to DICE's proprietary Frostbite game engine.
