Killzone: Shadow Fall shown running on Vita with Remote Play

14 second video showing off feature available in 240p.

Killzone: Shadow Fall developer Guerrilla Games has posted a video showing the game being played on Vita using the PlayStation 4's Remote Play feature.

The 14-second video is in 240p but shows the PlayStation 4 and Vita screens together in the same shot, with the Vita screen seemingly showing no major lag delays from its TV counterpart.

Killzone: Shadow Fall director Steven ter Heide posted the video on Twitter, with boss Hermen Hulst playing the game.

The PlayStation 4's Remote Play allows supported games to be played away from the television on the Vita, similar to the Wii U. The feature will be enabled in a day-one patch for the PlayStation 4. The handheld also received a firmware update this week which enabled the feature.

Killzone: Shadow Fall will be released alongside the PlayStation 4 on November 15 in North America, and November 29 in Europe.

What? No lag for up to 14 sec?

If only this would actually work, It sounds too good to be true for me, there is no money making involved out of the whole cycle. I don't believe every game developer in the next 7 years will keep taking time to map the button layout for vita. Only if Vita sales pick up a lot which in all honesty aint gonna happen... I love my Vita but this just sounds too good to be true sorry, I'll believe it when I see, there will be some sort of problem somewhere, just you watch.

The question is how many games will support it. I know they say "all", but I will believe it when I see it.

I play in bed sometimes. I played Ico and Bionic Command and Shadow of the Collesous through my vita.

I also play my vita while I whatch passes at TV these days (minus the FEW good shows on). I am not going to playing Shadow Fall while I watch Sons of Anarchy. but I might play some other games, like arcade type games while I watch TV.

Its a nice FREE feature that some of us will use more than other. Should you RUSH out and buy a vita for this. NO. but if you have a VITA then it might be something you might use from time to time, some more than others.

thats AWESOME! and its FREE!!!!!

PS4 can only do 240p? That's not very good.

only if the vita had DS3 like analog sticks, the sticks are stiff, the buttons are hard and no buttons for L2, R2, L3,R3. Rear touch pad isn't ideal and i enjoy vita games on it, but i cant think of playing hardcore games with it since it will not be a comfortable grip, that is just my opinion.

This quality of this video pushed potato recording capabilities to the maximum.

Yeah, my excitement was just shit all over after realizing Vita only has 2 triggers and you can't click in L3 and R3... I'm not fucking with a touch pad. This pisses me off. Why did they make such a dumb decision that would render remote play pretty much useless??!!

Amazing. I freaking love technology sometimes.

That is a dope feature. It's gonna be great for bathroom breaks like the Wii U.

This is really cool. Now Microsoft should allow Windows 8 PCs/tablets to stream Xbox Games through Smartglass/Cloud. It would be nice to connect a controller on a device and play it anywhere (inside the house, at least)

This feature looks awesome. Can't wait to play stuff like MineCraft on remote play whilst watching TV (I know will be on Vita too but I want to have all my worlds in one place)

Aside from the pre-VHS video, this is very cool and changes the game for the Vita completely. Good Job Sony!

Looks cool now I can finally play PS4 on the crapper!  Still wondering how it works without L2 & R2 buttons...

SO glad I spent the money on a Vita just a couple of months ago. If this feature turns out to be as good as it looks, it's going to be another brilliant point for Sony and the PS4.

Not noticing any lag so fingers crossed that this feature is everything its promised to be.

If this works the way they say it will, this could be MASSIVE for the Vita!

Interested to see this feature used for couch coop,i know Knacks ready to go with vita coop but i'm wondering if any of the other launch titles will include it.

The feature works by transmitting the image on the PS4 to the Vita through the Wi-Fi connection, is that right?

Now this is a cloud gaming. this is what ms was talking about but its very rarely what we will see. Disconnection happens everywhere but vita can be directly connected to prevent this. Very well executed by playstation!!

@wgerardi GROW up! Its a free feature IF YOU WANT TO USE IT? It doesnt cost a dime more. The games are not more expensive. It is not something you EVER have to use. You are crying of spilled milk. Spilled milk in someone elses house. Who the EFF CARES? Do you even have a vita? then why does it piss you off. I 100% do not understand why you care at all

DarkNeoBahamut
DarkNeoBahamut

@wgerardi You do know this is optional, right? You can always use your TV to play the game, and L2/L3/R2/R3 can be mapped in the touch pad or even better you can change the controller settings if you want to shoot with the R trigger on the Vita (you can see on the video he is shooting with the trigger)

Zepthire95

@Geardudu Thats such a cool idea. If i could play Xbox One games on a Windows laptop that would be pretty amazing.

@PosiTVEMinD355 WAIT?! The Vita doesn't have triggers and you can't click in L3 and R3? What the actual fuck? I was excited, now I see hardly any point in buying this. So fucking stupid beyond fucking stupid.

bu3aDeL_Maz
bu3aDeL_Maz

@PosiTVEMinD355 they could release a cover that provides physical buttons for the missing R2, L2, R3 and L3 buttons

Spartan_418
Spartan_418

Vita uses the four sections of the rear touchpad for L2, R2, and L3 and R3 since the Vita's sticks can't be clicked down

it's kinda awkward since you usually rest your fingers against that rear surface, and you have to avoid accidental "button presses"

rIVAL_sWORD84
rIVAL_sWORD84

@PosiTVEMinD355  rear touch pad can be customized to L2, R2. but it isn't fun. vita screwed they could have had 4 shoulder buttons like wiiu gamepad but they preferred slim design.

@endorbr This was my big concern as well . The future is looking bright!

@ricardo-sene All the Vita is doing is simply streaming the image from the PS4....so yes. You technically have the power of the PS4 in a handheld. Awesomeness!!!

blackace
blackace

@Def-Trex Well, it is a gimmick. I'm hoping the streaming of games from Gaikai to PS4 and PSVita is this smooth. I'm wondering how far you can take the PSVita from the PS4 to play the game with no lag. I would love to have seen him go outside or into another room and see if there was any lag a 20-30yrd distance.

There's two reasons this is cool though. 1) If someone wants to watch TV while you're playing your PS4, you can just switch the screen to the PSVita and keep playing.  2) If you want to go to your room or outside on the patio and play a Ps4 game, you can. I'm surprised Nintendo's GamePad doesn't already do this with Wii U games.

@Def-Trex This is the right kind of gimmick.  Something that attracts attention to the system and has an actual practical use.

wgerardi

@inaka_rob @wgerardi I am pissed because I was really looking forward to buying this device to go with my PS4 so I can play PS4 games at my girlfriends house, or still play PS4 when she is at my house watching silly Reality Shows. Also, it would be nice to have a solid portable gaming system.

Basically, I was genuinely excited about the Vita until I found out 4 essential buttons are missing.

wgerardi
wgerardi

@DarkNeoBahamut @wgerardi You can play PS4 on TV? Crazy.

For real though, I hate touch pads- as I said before I'm not fucking with them. In most games I'm using both bumpers as well as the triggers- a game like GTA5 would be a nightmare without them for me.

guitarpete462
guitarpete462

@bu3aDeL_Maz @PosiTVEMinD355 That's actually a great idea, about the cover that enables a more tactile way of pressing L2/R2/L3/R3. Run with it, make them and make your fortune!

WheelerJared

@blackace @Def-Trex I don't think it would matter how far away from your ps4 you are, Just your router. My router covers my entire house with a full connection so I won't have any problems playing in another room.
