Bethesda Softworks has announced that actress Keira Knightley will serve as the narrator in its upcoming role-playing game, Pirates of the Caribbean. Knightley was already connected to the game through her role as the female lead in the upcoming film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She's also currently starring in the critically acclaimed independent film Bend It Like Beckham.
"I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work on this exciting project," Knightley said. "The Pirates game will be a wonderful extension of the film and I'm sure the gaming public will enjoy it immensely."
Pirates of the Caribbean is being developed by Akella, which is known for its work on Sea Dogs and Age of Sail II. Players will assume the role of a pirate captain and will have the ability to venture through islands and towns from a third-person perspective. It will also be possible to engage in sea battles with a sailing ship and travel between islands owned by the game's six factions: the English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, and pirates. Currently, the game is slated to ship this summer for the PC and Xbox, in time for the release of its movie counterpart in July.
