Kazuo Hirai steps down as Sony Computer Entertainment chairman

Father of the PlayStation stepping down from SCE roles, but will remain president and CEO of Sony Corp.

Sony Computer Entertainment announced recently on its executive appointments briefing that Kazuo Hirai will be stepping down from his position of representative director and chairman of the division. He will now be participating as a member of the board in a part-time fashion.

On the official report, the new representative director as well as president and group CEO for the division will be Andrew House. Hirai will remain president and CEO of Sony Corporation.

Kazuo Hirai joined Sony Computer Entertainment in August 1995. Since then, he has played a vital role in Sony's success with the original PlayStation console and the PlayStation 2.
