Just Play has today announced that it will publish Spartan in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Scandinavia, and a number of other European territories in March of next year. The turn-based strategy game, which is currently in development at Slitherine Strategies, focuses on the ancient Greeks and will challenge players to lead any of 100 different nations, including Sparta, to victory.

"We are, of course, delighted to be working with Slitherine Strategies on Spartan, as it further enhances our reputation for championing the cause of turn-based games and our continued support of small but highly talented development teams--as demonstrated by the recent success of Laser Squad Nemesis and Korsun Pocket," said Bob Malin, brand manager at Just Play. "We also aim to capitalize on the increased interest in ancient Greece, as generated by the various movies scheduled for release in 2004 that are set in the period, such as Troy and Gates of Fires, which re-create the battle of Thermopylae."

"We were really flattered when Just Play approached us. They're a perfect fit," added JD McNeil, business manager at Siltherine Strategies. "With their commitment to quality and authenticity--and their knowledge of the PC market--we are confident that all the ingredients are in place to deliver a great product for strategy game fans."

Spartan will feature more than 40 different troop types across 10 ethnic cultural groups and will be played on an authentic campaign map of ancient Greece as it was around 400BC. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
