Well done Thatgamecompany! for a brilliant game, that's a breathtaking journey indeed :)

I read Thatgamecompany went bankrupt making the game and that some of the developers were working for free to finish it. Someone please tell me they bounced back. I would hate for the gaming industry to lose these guys/gals.

Bravo thatgamecompany! A well deserved victory. It's these rare times I feel good about the future of gaming.

Journey keeps mowing it's way up the gaming history, and I for one couldn't be happier about it

GOTY award goes to Journey.

DGOTY  award goes to Walking Dead

Contradictions in awards.

Why does this game keep getting awards?

ok, this is ridiculous. i cant believe Far Cry 3 didnt win anything. Journey? Ok, Journey is fun and all but definitely not game of the year. Far cry 3 deserved to grab some of those awards. Bull.

The only thing that bugs me is that Persona 4 Arena didn't win best fighting game

Congrats to Thatgamecompany and Journey. It's good that games that change the formula every now and then receive recognition for it.

Minor point-  Journey and Walking Dead were both nominated for "Game of the Year" and "Downloadable Game of the Year" with them winning one each.  You'd think they'd be mutually exclusive...

P.S. Walking Dead was bloody brilliant.

I am a self-confessed Sony fanboy, i'll pretty much admit that.  The company has done a hell of a lot for gaming over the years and i've grown up with them.

What I will say however, Journey is good yes, no denying it, and beautiful i'll agree.. But Game of the Year?  Hmmm..

I'll give credit to That Game Company where it's due, and Journey certainly is spectacular.  But it appears to me that the game is just riding a wave of it's own success.  It's good yes, but certainly not the best game to have been released in the past 12 months.

Opinions are opinions though I guess.. and that's all they'll ever be.

Journey reeked of pretentiousness. It was good, but not great.

Who the hell thought it would be okay to give the technical mess of a game that is Street Fighter x Tekken a reward?

It's almost like you support unbalanced game design and crappy business practices.

Congrats. With so much praise for this game, I have to get this game at some point in the future.

congrats to Journey, and all the winner too. Looking forward to more great experience from TGC!

Why do these arty games always win? They are ok for 10 mins and then once the novelty wears off you put them down and go to a proper game. I'd give my GOTY to Dayz tbh, I spent most of the year playing it, especially when the end of the year was as bad as it was.

@Baroni88 Well consider this... this is the DICE awards. DICE stands for Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain. Journey had unique art design; it innovated; as for communication, its story had an unique narrative, and the online integration was also unique; and the game entertains.

Journey ticks all their boxes, you can't deny that! Even though I personally wouldn't award it my personal game of the year, as you say (there simply are other games that I enjoyed more), I can see why DICE in particular would award it theirs. :)

@Baroni88 I totally agree with you. Not winning the game of the year award it's ok, but nothing...

@marting265 Calling any of the games nominated for these awards "weak" is a bit of a stretch, wouldn't you say?

Sure, the MMO part... Massively Multiplayer Online.

@ADO300 I'm wondering the same thing, and I've never played Dishonored.

@Tixylixx Dude i wish i had a PC to run DayZ. That game looks amazing.

@hippiesanta

It is a bit shocking.  But I guess originality and creating a memorable experience that goes beyond being part of the what everyone else is doing and liking now resulted in it.

Baroni88
Baroni88

@halBU @marting265 No, i would have to agree with him. Borderlands, in general, is too Arcade-like to enjoy. if it didn't have the weird HP system where numbers shoot out when you hit someone, I mightve considered it. Ugh, i wish i wouldn't have ever purchased that game. But, because everyone was so gungho about Borderlands 1 and I had never played the first one, I decided to give it a try. I don't want to pay $60 for an arcade-style game that throws you back into the same places over and over again and calls it different quests. Sorry, I just don't see what the hype is about. I even had a couple friends come over and check it out and they immediately wanted to play something else.

halBU

@Baroni88 The fact that a game doesn't appeal to you doesn't make it "weak". These are industry awards given by people that can appreciate a wide variety of games despite it not being their personal favorite.

TimeFrame

@Baroni88 I don't understand your criticism though. I am only about level 20 I think, but the environments and art and encounters and quest have certainly been diverse enough!

TimeFrame
TimeFrame

@Baroni88 I guess I can relate. Not with Borderlands 2. But with GW2... what a boring game that is.. I have no idea why everyone was so up in arms about it..

Borderlands 2 is okay though.. I am still playing through it in a relaxed pace with a friend.

Dreizel
Dreizel

@Baroni88 I had exactly the same experience that you had, i became bored with game after a few hours and droped it. It didn't had much depth to it. maybe Boderlands 2 managed to incorpore that missing spark but i don't want to play the sequel without first having finished the first.

Still someday i will manage to find the strenght to finish it just to see why do so many people like this game.

dubs088
dubs088

@Baroni88 and that is the beauty of video game diversity. My cousin and myself can't get enough of Borderlands 2. But for those that Borderlands doesn't appeal to, there are plenty of other games on the shelf. No one said that everyone had to like the same thing.
